If you have a solid foundation in residential service paired with hands-on commercial exposure—whether through maintenance, light service, or commercial install—Sure-Fire is looking for you. We need a mechanically sharp, dependable technician to handle commercial preventive maintenance, entry-level diagnostics, and cross-over residential service. At Sure-Fire, you won't just be a filter changer stuck in a loop. The Day-to-Day Scope Commercial Preventative Maintenance:
Execute thorough maintenance across commercial rooftop units (RTUs), unit heaters, split systems, make-up air units, and exhaust fans (inspecting electrical components, checking belt tension/sheaves, evaluating airflow, and verifying heating/cooling cycles).
Light Diagnostics & Service:
Perform initial troubleshooting on basic mechanical and electrical faults across light commercial equipment, coordinating with senior commercial techs when advanced diagnostic needs arise.
Residential Service Support:
Leverage your residential background to run diagnostic, repair, and seasonal tune-up calls on residential split systems, heat pumps, and furnaces during peak demand periods.
Customer & Site Communication:
Clearly communicate equipment status, safety concerns, and recommended repairs to facility managers, building superintendents, and homeowners.
Field Documentation & Safety:
Keep mechanical rooms, basements, and roof workspaces clean and compliant with safety regulations. Log system data, model/serial tags, and detailed service notes through our mobile dispatch system.
Where This Role Leads:
Advanced Commercial & Industrial Systems This position is designed as the direct pipeline into our high-level commercial and industrial service division. As your skills advance, you will receive specialized factory training and lead-tech mentoring to work into:
Precision Equipment Start-Ups:
Commissioning brand-new commercial projects from the ground up to verify baseline static pressures, design airflow, and proper sequence of operation.
Heavy Mechanical Infrastructure:
Servicing and diagnosing chillers, commercial boilers, and large makeup air units (MAUs). Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF): Setting up, addressing, and executing advanced refrigerant and electrical diagnostics on multi-zone inverter systems. Building Automation (BAS/BMS): Diagnosing digital controllers, low-voltage control loops, network sensors, and centralized building management systems.
Jobsite Technical Leadership:
Coordinating alongside general contractors, facility directors, and other trades on high-profile regional projects.

Qualifications Experience:
1-3+ years of professional HVAC field experience, including hands-on exposure to commercial equipment (via maintenance, light service, or commercial install/sheet metal) alongside solid residential service experience.
Licensing:
EPA Universal Certification required.
Driver's License:
Valid driver's license with an insurable, clean driving record.
Safety & Compliance:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Availability:
Full-time (40 hours/week) with standard weekday hours and participation in a rotating on-call schedule. Sure-Fire, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
