Job description We are seeking a detail-oriented, reliable Assembly Technician to join our sheet metal manufacturing team. In this role, you will assemble high-quality steel filing cabinets, secure storage units, and heavy-duty safes from precision-formed sheet metal components. You will work with mechanical fasteners, hardware, locking mechanisms, and structural sub-assemblies while conducting visual quality checks to ensure smooth mechanical operation and alignment.
Key Responsibilities Hardware & Mechanical Assembly Assemble formed sheet metal panels, frames, drawers, and structural components using pneumatic rivet guns, cordless drills, torque wrenches, and standard hand tools. Install hinges, heavy-duty drawer slides, lock sets, electronic keypads, linkage rods, and strike plates according to engineering drawings and work instructions. Mount interior insulation, fireproofing linings, and door seals for fire-rated cabinets and safes. Quality Assurance & Fitment Verify mechanical function (e.g., drawer smooth glide, proper door latching, lock engagement, and tight seam margins). Inspect raw and powder-coated metal components for cosmetic defects, scratch marks, burrs, or weld alignment issues prior to final package prep. Ensure all hardware is torqued to specified tolerances without damaging painted or plated surfaces. Production & Shop Operations Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, bill of materials (BOM), and work order instructions. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation following standard 5S protocols. Assist with staging finished units for final packaging, badging, and pallet shipping.
1-3 years of mechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment (sheet metal, HVAC equipment, appliances, or enclosures preferred).
Tool Proficiency:
Experience using pneumatic/air tools (pop rivet guns, air nut-runners), power screwdrivers, manual hand tools, and torque drivers.
Blueprint Reading:
Ability to read simple assembly drawings, exploded views, and shop work orders.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for long periods, lift/maneuver components up to 50 lbs, and bend, stretch, or reach routinely throughout a shift. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working specifically with sheet metal products, hardware latching systems, or locking mechanisms. Familiarity with basic quality inspection tools (calipers, tape measures, go/no-go gauges). Experience in a fast-paced production line or cell manufacturing structure. Pay:
$17.00 - $24.50 per hour
