Shredder Mechanic Helper

Job Description

Job Summary:
We are seeking a dependable Shredder Mechanic Helper to assist maintenance mechanics with the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of shredding equipment and other heavy machinery in a busy scrap metal recycling facility. This is a hands-on position requiring mechanical aptitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work safely in an industrial environment.
Responsibilities:
Assist mechanics with maintenance and repairs on industrial shredders, conveyors, motors, bearings, and related equipment. Help perform preventative maintenance, inspections, lubrication, and equipment adjustments. Assist with replacing worn or damaged mechanical components. Use basic hand and power tools safely. Help troubleshoot mechanical issues and equipment breakdowns. Maintain a clean and safe work area. Follow all company safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO). Perform additional maintenance and general labor duties as needed.
Qualifications:
Previous mechanical, industrial maintenance, construction, or scrap yard experience preferred. Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools. Willingness to learn industrial equipment maintenance and repair. Ability to work around heavy machinery in a physically demanding environment. Ability to lift 50+ lbs., climb, bend, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Reliable attendance and strong safety awareness required.
