Summary As a Maintenance Mechanic at SMF, Inc., you will be essential in maintaining our specialized manufacturing equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety. Located in a dynamic manufacturing environment, this role is vital to our mission of delivering high-quality products while upholding our standards for engineering excellence. . The employee will be required to fabricate weldments and components as well as provide facility maintenance service to customers primarily in the field, but at times work in the shop, in a timely and efficient manner. Experienced employees should be capable of handling advanced projects.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY SUMMARY

Working knowledge of welding and fabrication theory, set-up and safe operation of all SMF welding and fabrication equipment including the following: Shears, press brakes, rolls, saws, ironworkers, drills, cutting torches, and welders. Welds will be sound and aesthetically pleasing with a minimum of grinding. Ability to layout, cut, form, fit, weld and install assemblies made from a variety of materials (steel, stainless steel, aluminum, etc.) when provided with blueprints, samples or verbal instructions. Good mathematical skills and the ability to create basic sketches with acknowledge of drafting principals. Good general mechanical aptitude, including the skill to use basic hand and measuring tools, and safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes and telescoping boom cranes. Ability to read and interpret drawing, specifications, manuals and competently inspect all products manufactured.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks. Proficient in 3G welding. Ability to work outside in varying climates and conditions. Ability to and comfortable with working at heights Motivated, punctual and have good work ethic, such as reliability and dependability. Self-starter with the ability to work independently. Must be able to understand, read and speak the English language. Employees are to supply required tools and ANSI approved toe protection footwear.

Education/ Required:

4 year post secondary education, or equivalent experience.

Licensure/ Credentials Preferred:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. and certificate from an accredited technical or trade school.

Experience Required:

Good mechanical aptitude, including the ability to use basic hand and measuring tools.

Preferred:

Strong working knowledge of the heavy truck industry.

Special Knowledge/ Skills Required:

Must be able to safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes and telescoping boom cranes.

Required:

Must be able to fit and weld using MIG and Stick processes. Welds should be aesthetically pleasing with a minimum of grinding. Able to use acetylene set and plasma machine for burning.

Preferred:

General Rigging Knowledge.
