Fiberglass Mechanic/Industrial Maintenance Technician

Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Fiberglass Mechanic is responsible for the fabrication, repair, installation, and maintenance of fiberglass and composite equipment used throughout the manufacturing facility. This position also supports the Maintenance Department by performing industrial mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance to improve equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and ensure safe plant operations. The ideal candidate possesses strong fiberglass fabrication skills, industrial mechanical aptitude, and the ability to safely work in a chemical manufacturing environment.
QUALIFICATION
At least 3-5 years of experience in fiberglass repair, fabrication, and industrial maintenance. Candidates must possess a recognized fiberglass/composite fabrication certification or demonstrate equivalent training and experience in fiberglass fabrication and repair. Preferred certifications include, but are not limited to, certifications from the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) or other industry-recognized fiberglass/composites training programs also with expertise in the following: Fiberglass lay-up and lamination Fiberglass repair and finishing Mold preparation and composite material application Industrial mechanical maintenance Welding (structural and pipe, preferred) Pipe fitting and plumbing Millwright work (aligning and installing industrial equipment) Heavy equipment operation Blueprint reading and fabrication work Confined space work and elevated work Safe work practices in chemical environments
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work with resins, epoxies, and composite materials for fiberglass component construction and repair. Strong knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and industrial equipment used in both fiberglass work and mechanical repairs. Ability to troubleshoot and repair pumps, gearboxes, piping systems, and industrial structures. Knowledge of preventive maintenance strategies and ability to implement them effectively. Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills to interact with engineers, production staff, and other maintenance personnel. Ability to learn process specifications, company standards, and safety policies through active participation and training. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed. Other duties as assigned by the manager.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working in tight spaces/quarters and elevated work environments. Exposure to weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, rain, and high humidity. High-temperature environments exceeding 100°F. Exposure to chemical fumes, dust, and odors, requiring appropriate PPE (respirators, gloves, and protective suits). Noise exposure, requiring hearing protection.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand for extended periods on hard surfaces (concrete, metal grating, tile). Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work at heights. Perform tasks requiring twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and bending. Operate forklifts, aerial lifts, and other industrial equipment. Must be able to use a respirator without difficulty.
WEIGHT HANDLING
Lift up to 50 pounds; Carry up to 25 pounds. PAY $28.00 - $31.00 per hour
