Camp San Luis Obispo Billeting is seeking a dependable Part-Time Grounds & Facility Maintenance Assistant to join our team. Reporting directly to the Billeting Maintenance Technician, your primary role will be transforming and maintaining the outdoor grounds surrounding our RV Park and Billeting buildings, alongside assisting with general facility maintenance and surface upkeep. Steady Part-Time Schedule:
Enjoy a consistent 20-hour work week. Position Purpose The Part-Time Grounds and Facility Maintenance Assistant ensures that all outdoor spaces across Billeting facilities and the RV Park are attractive, safe, and pristine. This position provides critical groundskeeping, routine exterior touch-ups, and supporting hands-on labor to the Maintenance Technician for routine facility repairs. Key Responsibilities Groundskeeping & Landscaping (Primary Duty - ~70%) Perform routine lawn care, including mowing, edging, weed eating, and turf maintenance across all Billeting buildings and the RV Park. Prune, trim, and maintain trees, shrubs, hedges, and flowerbeds. Keep RV sites, pathways, roadways, and common areas free of weeds, leaves, trash, and debris. Inspect, operate, and assist with basic repairs on irrigation systems (sprinkler heads, drip lines). Apply mulch, soil, gravel, and perform general ground preparation or manual digging as needed. Safely operate and maintain tools and power equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, pressure washers). General Maintenance, Painting & Facility Support (~30%) Assist the Maintenance Technician with basic facility repairs, material handling, and structural maintenance. Assist with outdoor pest control measures and trash compaction/removal. Perform touch-up painting, staining, and surface prep on exterior/interior walls, trim, doors, fences, and facility structures. Move furniture, equipment, and heavy supplies to assist housekeeping or facility projects. Perform exterior pressure washing on buildings and walkways. Maintain clean, organized storage sheds, paint supplies, and equipment work areas.
Position Requirements Grounds & Facility Maintenance Assistant Requirements:
Proven landscaping, groundskeeping, or physical labor experience. Proven safety skills and experience operating outdoor equipment. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Skilled in the use of outdoor power tools and equipment (mowers, weed trimmers, blowers, pressure washers). Ability to safely handle basic hand tools and painting equipment (brushes, rollers, scrapers). Ability to follow maintenance instructions and take direction from the Maintenance Technician. Experience performing routine lawn care, irrigation checks, and property cleanup. Basic experience with touch-up painting, surface prep, and minor facility repairs.
Organizational Autonomy:
Demonstrated ability to work independently, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and maintain focus. Professional presentation and attitude around military personnel, staff, and guests. Ability to maintain focus while working individually outdoors. Strong time management and task prioritization skills. Must be reliable, dependable & honest. Must have a valid Class C driver's license and be able to be insured with a good driving record. Physical Requirements The duties of this position require frequent physical exertion, including, but not limited to:
Lifting and Carrying:
Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
Mobility:
Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods throughout the shift.
Agility:
Ability to frequently bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, and twist to access equipment, pipes, and confined spaces.
Climbing:
Ability to safely climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms at varying heights.
Environmental Tolerance:
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions and be exposed to noise, vibrations, dust, and common maintenance chemicals.
Pay:
From $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 16.0 - 24.0 per week
