Job Description

Job Summary A maintenance janitorial worker ensures the cleanliness, safety, and upkeep of buildings through routine cleaning, minor repairs, and facility maintenance tasks. Responsibilities Perform daily cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing floors and surfaces Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms, including replenishing paper products, soaps, and air fresheners Wash windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces Collect and dispose of trash and recycling, maintaining proper waste management Conduct minor maintenance and repairs, such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging toilets, and fixing minor plumbing or electrical issues Perform seasonal or periodic tasks, including waxing floors, trimming shrubs, snow removal, and inspecting utilities like smoke detectors and HVAC systems Ensure building security by locking and unlocking doors and monitoring facility access Maintain janitorial supplies and equipment, ensuring proper storage and inventory management Follow safety protocols when handling cleaning chemicals and equipment Skills Basic knowledge of cleaning techniques, janitorial equipment, and minor maintenance procedures Physical stamina to lift supplies, move equipment, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks Attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety Time management and ability to work independently or under minimal supervision High school diploma or equivalent is often preferred Familiarity with safety regulations and proper handling of cleaning chemicals Work Environment Typically operates in schools, offices, hospitals, libraries, or other public and private facilities May require working outside normal business hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends Exposure to cleaning chemicals and physical activity is common Additional Considerations Position may involve working with contract cleaning services or coordinating with other maintenance staff Salary and benefits vary based on experience Position is essential for maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment for employees, clients, and visitors, combining routine cleaning with basic maintenance and facility upkeep Position generally works Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week.
