Join our team as a Maintenance Worker and help keep our parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, buildings, and community spaces clean, safe, and ready for everyone to enjoy. No two days are exactly the same—you'll tackle a variety of hands-on tasks, including facility cleaning, event setups, basic repairs, painting, grounds upkeep, and general maintenance. You'll also have the opportunity to operate tools and equipment such as pressure washers, floor-cleaning machines, chainsaws, County vehicles, and all-terrain vehicles. Bring your skills, reliability, and can-do attitude and help us keep our community looking its best! This position works independently within assigned areas, identifies and reports maintenance and safety concerns, maintains equipment and supplies, secures facilities, and keeps basic records of completed work. The employee may work around County staff and the public during daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday hours and is expected to provide professional and helpful customer service. This position is considered essential personnel and may be required to support emergency operations as assigned.
Education and Experience:
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience: High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of experience in a related field. Licenses and/or
Certificates:
Must maintain a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures. Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures. Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and the safe use of cleaning materials and disinfectants. Knowledge of safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work. Knowledge of shop mathematics and basic record keeping practices. Knowledge of basic painting, plumbing, and tools and techniques. Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, multi-line telephone system, scanner, fax machine, and copier. Ability to operate automotive/all-terrain vehicles and light-duty motor vehicles. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to perform manual labor, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.
Depending upon assignment:
Ability to work long and/or late nights, early mornings, split shifts, on weekends and holidays. Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication. Ability to operate motor vehicle. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, service providers, other employees, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is exposed to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, outdoors weather conditions, excessive noise, extreme heat, odors or dust).
