Maintenance Specialist

Job Description

This position is semi-skilled and requires manual work in maintaining the City's roads, drainage system, signs, landscaping/grounds, irrigation systems, trash collection, ballfields, facilities, and fire hydrant checks. Maintains various grounds, fields, and parks by performing mowing, weeding, tilling, raking, digging, and other manual labor tasks. Prepares fields for athletic activities such as lining and raking. Performs repair and maintenance on the drainage systems, cleans ditches and canals. Installs turf and seeds on fields, parks, and other grounds. Helps maintain equipment and facilities by performing manual labor and semi-skilled work. Performs building maintenance functions, including, but not limited to, painting, carpentry, plumbing, etc. Repairs and installs irrigation systems. Operates and performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Performs street repairs such as filling potholes and minor repaving. Repairs and erects traffic, street, and park signage. During a natural disaster or storm event, such as a hurricane or tsunami, report to work as required. Public Works is considered essential personnel. On occasion, may be required to work in sensitive locations. Other job-related duties as required. High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma Some maintenance/laboring experience Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License Ability to obtain Florida Stormwater Operator certification within one year of employment Knowledge of landscape maintenance and turf installation. Knowledge of tools and equipment to do related work. Knowledge of grounds keeping practices and principles. Knowledge of general building and street maintenance work. Ability to perform heavy manual labor under various weather conditions. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Skill in the operation and preventative maintenance of equipment and related tools.
