PUBLIC WORKS MAINTENANCE WORKER
Village of Sleepy Hollow, Illinois The Village of Sleepy Hollow is accepting applications for a full-time Public Works Maintenance Worker . This position performs a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled work involving the maintenance, repair, and operation of Village streets, water and sewer systems, parks, grounds, equipment, and other public infrastructure. Compensation & Schedule
Starting Pay:
$24.00-$26.00 per hour, based on previous experience and qualifications
Regular Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Overtime:
Paid at 1½ times the employee's regular hourly rate for hours worked over 40 hours per week
Call-Out Pay:
Employees called in outside of their regular work schedule receive a minimum of three (3) hours of OT pay
Employees are required to participate in an on-call rotation and must be available for emergency call-outs, snow and ice operations, and other situations requiring work outside normal working hours. Benefits The Village offers a competitive benefits package that includes:

Paid personal time Essential Duties & Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to:
Street and roadway maintenance and repair
Water main, water service, and water system maintenance and repair
Sanitary sewer maintenance and repair
Snow and ice removal operations
Tree trimming, brush removal, and general tree maintenance
Mowing and landscaping of Village-owned properties, parks, and rights-of-way
General maintenance of Village buildings, grounds, signs, and infrastructure
Operation of backhoes, tractors, mowers, snowplows, and other Public Works vehicles and equipment
Operation of power tools, hand tools, and other maintenance equipment
Preventative maintenance and minor repairs on Village vehicles and equipment
Responding to Public Works emergencies and after-hours service calls
Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Works Minimum Qualifications Applicants must:
Be at least 18 years of age
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
Possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record
Possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or be able to obtain a Class B CDL within six (6) months of employment
Successfully obtaining and maintaining the required Class B CDL is a condition of continued employment
Be able to safely operate trucks, construction equipment, power tools, and hand tools
Be able to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying and sometimes severe weather conditions
Be available for overtime, emergency call-outs, on-call assignments, and snow and ice removal operations
Be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a Public Works crew
Follow established safety procedures and Village policies Previous experience in municipal Public Works, construction, underground utilities, water/sewer systems, road maintenance, landscaping, equipment operation, or a related field is preferred.
Physical Requirements The position requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, carrying, digging, and working around vehicles and heavy equipment. Employees must be capable of performing outdoor work during extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and other adverse weather conditions.
