Position Overview The Village of Winneconne is seeking a Public Works Operator to join a dedicated team responsible for maintaining and improving the community's infrastructure, parks, streets, and public spaces. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, variety in daily activities, and working outdoors in different environments . No two days are the same, one day you may be plowing snow or repairing streets, the next maintaining parks, assisting with utilities, or responding to an emergency situation that keeps the Village running safely. Public Works Operators play a vital role in the day-to-day quality of life for residents and visitors by ensuring Village facilities, streets, utilities, and grounds are safe, functional, and well maintained. Essential Duties & Responsibilities This position performs a wide range of public works and maintenance activities, including but not limited to: Collecting and disposing of refuse from parks and public trash receptacles Performing minor equipment maintenance, cleaning, and repair Assembling, delivering, and handling containers and materials Grinding brush and yard waste; hauling gravel, leaves, snow sand, and other materials Operating a variety of Village vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, crack fillers, rollers, compressors, routers, and snowplows Snow plowing, snow hauling, and ice control operations Street sweeping, patching, and repairs Assisting with asphalt paving, concrete repair, and street construction projects Maintaining parks, playgrounds, shelters, sidewalks, and other Village-owned property Grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, tree pruning, and landscaping Cemetery maintenance, including preparing gravesites and assisting with burials Repairing storm, sewer, and water infrastructure Maintaining the Village compost site, including hauling brush and yard waste and site cleanup Performing miscellaneous maintenance tasks such as painting, sand blasting, and general repairs Responding to emergency situations including snow and ice removal, storm cleanup, flooding, water main breaks, and power outages Working evenings, weekends, overtime, and emergency call-ins as required Work Environment - Why This Job Is Different This role offers constant variety : Work indoors and outdoors Operate in parks, streets, facilities, utility sites, and public spaces Seasonal work that changes throughout the year Independent work and teamwork depending on the task If you enjoy staying active, working with equipment, and contributing directly to your community, this role offers meaningful and visible results every day. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Manual dexterity required to operate a variety of machinery and tools Ability to work in all weather conditions Qualifications Valid driver's license and current class A CDL required Experience in public works, construction, maintenance, or related fields preferred Ability to safely operate equipment or willingness to be trained Dependable, punctual, and able to respond to emergencies Ability to work effectively with coworkers, contractors, and the public
Compensation & Benefits Hourly Pay:
