Job Description
Vice President of Operations / Director of Maintenance & Engineering Position Summary The Vice President of Operations serves as the senior operational leader responsible for executing the company's vision, strategic plan, and annual goals while ensuring operational excellence across all departments. This role aligns people, processes, priorities, and performance to achieve measurable business results. In the dual role of Director of Maintenance & Engineering, this position also provides technical leadership for engineering, maintenance, manufacturing support, automation, tooling, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role ensures equipment reliability, manufacturing efficiency, process innovation, and successful capital project execution while supporting production operations. This position reports directly to the President/CEO. Primary Responsibilities As Vice President of Operations Strategic Leadership Execute the company's Vision and Traction strategy. Translate organizational goals into departmental execution plans. Lead quarterly and annual operational planning. Drive accountability for company Rocks and KPIs. Ensure all departments operate in alignment with EOS principles. Operational Leadership Direct daily business operations. Coordinate cross-functional communication between Operations, Sales, Finance, HR, Engineering, and Production. Remove organizational obstacles preventing departmental success. Establish standardized business processes. Improve company-wide efficiency and profitability. Financial Performance Develop and manage operational budgets. Monitor labor efficiency, productivity, and profitability. Drive cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality or customer satisfaction. Support annual strategic planning and capital investment decisions. Leadership & Talent Development Develop department leaders. Build accountability through coaching and performance management. Foster a culture of ownership, teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement. Lead organizational change initiatives. Customer & Quality Focus Ensure customer requirements are consistently met. Support on-time delivery performance. Champion quality systems and corrective action initiatives. Promote operational excellence throughout the organization. As Director of Maintenance & Engineering Engineering Leadership Lead all engineering functions supporting manufacturing operations. Oversee product launch support, tooling development, equipment design, automation, and manufacturing improvements. Establish engineering standards and best practices. Support new customer opportunities with engineering expertise. Maintenance Leadership Develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies. Improve equipment reliability and machine uptime. Manage maintenance planning and scheduling. Lead capital equipment installation and upgrades. Manufacturing Support Improve manufacturing processes using Lean Manufacturing principles. Increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Eliminate bottlenecks. Standardize work methods and process documentation. Support production with engineering solutions. Automation & Process Improvement Lead automation projects. Evaluate emerging manufacturing technologies. Improve manufacturing efficiency through robotics, vision systems, controls, and data collection. Support Industry 4.0 initiatives. Tooling & Fabrication Oversee tooling design and fabrication.
Support tooling utilizing:
CNC machining Sheet metal fabrication Welding Additive manufacturing (3D Printing) Ensure tooling quality and manufacturability. Capital Projects Manage facility improvements. Lead equipment procurement. Develop capital expenditure justifications. Oversee installation, startup, and validation of new equipment. Environmental, Health & Safety Ensure engineering and maintenance activities comply with OSHA and environmental regulations. Promote safe equipment design and maintenance practices. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Operations On-Time Delivery Gross Margin EBITDA Safety Performance Customer Satisfaction Quality Performance (PPM) Employee Retention Labor Efficiency Inventory Accuracy Production Throughput Maintenance & Engineering Equipment Uptime Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) Preventive Maintenance Compliance Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) Capital Project Completion Engineering Project Completion Manufacturing Cost Reduction Automation ROI Scrap Reduction Tooling Lead Time Continuous Improvement Savings Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in: Mechanical Engineering Manufacturing Engineering Industrial Engineering Operations Management Business Administration MBA preferred. Experience 10+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership. 5+ years leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams. Experience managing maintenance organizations. Experience leading manufacturing operations. Experience in coatings, finishing, vacuum metallizing, painting, or high-volume manufacturing preferred. Proven experience implementing Lean Manufacturing. Strong understanding of EOS preferred. Experience leading organizational change. It is particularly well suited for a coatings, vacuum metallizing, and industrial finishing organization operating under the EOS framework.
