Our client, an established and growing non-ferrous forging manufacturer in Ferndale, is hiring a Manufacturing Maintenance Manager to own equipment uptime and reliability across the plant. The company has been forging brass, copper, and aluminum components since 1934 and serves defense and firearms, aerospace, automotive, powersports, and industrial customers with the full process in-house: die design and build, closed-die forging on presses from 1,000 to 2,750 tons, trim and pierce, heat treat, CNC machining, and finishing. 16949, and CQI-9 requirements. This is a hands-on, working leadership role. The company is not looking for someone to manage maintenance from an office. It needs a leader who can troubleshoot a hydraulic press, a furnace, or a PLC fault on the floor, and who can also build the preventive maintenance discipline, spare-parts control, and technician skills that keep those problems from repeating. The role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and works day to day with the Plant Manager and Quality Manager. The Role The Manufacturing Maintenance Manager is responsible for the reliability of every production asset in a press-based, heat-intensive forging operation, and for the small team of maintenance technicians who keep it running. Equipment Reliability and Uptime Own preventive and predictive maintenance for forging presses, trim and pierce presses, billet saws, heating and heat-treat furnaces, CNC machining centers, finishing equipment, compressors, and overhead cranes Respond to breakdowns and personally troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical failures alongside the team Run root-cause analysis on repeat failures and turn the findings into PM changes, critical spares, and equipment fixes that reduce unplanned downtime Track and report uptime, PM completion, and maintenance cost Team Leadership Lead, schedule, train, and develop the maintenance technicians across shifts Plan and assign work orders, set priorities, and coordinate downtime windows with production Systems, Compliance, and Facilities Build out the PM program and equipment records in a CMMS or the

Maintain furnace calibration and equipment records that support
CQI-9, ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF
16949, and customer audits Manage spare-parts inventory, outside contractors, and the maintenance budget; own building and facility systems including electrical distribution, compressed air, and HVAC Projects and Continuous Improvement Lead equipment installation, rebuilds, and commissioning, including planned press capacity expansion and new CNC equipment Partner with Continuous Improvement on OEE, 5S, and changeover standard work; lead lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and hot-work safety practices
What Success Looks Like:
The First 90 Days First 30 days: Knows every major asset in the plant, its failure history, and its criticality to production. Has met the technicians, production supervisors, and quality team and is already turning wrenches on live issues. By 60 days: Has a documented PM schedule and critical-spares list for the presses, furnaces, and CNC equipment, with work orders and completion being tracked. Downtime is being logged by cause and the first repeat-failure fixes are in motion. By 90 days: Reporting uptime and PM completion to leadership on a regular cadence, running the maintenance budget and contractors independently, and owning the plan for upcoming equipment installations. Candidate Profile This role calls for a maintenance leader who came up through the trades and still likes being on the floor. We are prioritizing candidates from forging, stamping, die casting, extrusion, heat treat, or similar press-based and heat-intensive manufacturing.
Strong candidates typically bring:
7+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance in a manufacturing plant, including 2+ years leading or supervising a maintenance team Deep working knowledge of hydraulics, industrial electrical (480V three-phase), PLCs and machine controls, pneumatics, and mechanical power transmission A track record of building or improving a preventive maintenance program with measurable uptime results Experience managing spare parts, outside contractors, and a maintenance budget Comfort in a hot, loud, physically demanding forging environment, with availability for off-shift and weekend calls when production requires it Associate degree, journeyman card, trade or technical school, or an equivalent combination of training and experience U.S. person status as defined under ITAR (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) A strong plus: forging press and billet heating experience; furnace, pyrometry, and CQI-9 or
AMS 2750
familiarity; CMMS or PLEX maintenance module experience; journeyman electrician, millwright, or industrial maintenance certification; Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLC training; and prior equipment installation and commissioning work. Schedule & Logistics Full-time, on-site in Ferndale, Michigan, primarily first shift Monday through Friday. As the leader of plant maintenance, the role carries after-hours and weekend availability when equipment issues or planned installations require it. There is no remote or hybrid component to this role. Compensation Base salary of $90,000 to $115,000 depending on experience, with flexibility for a candidate who brings forging, press, or heat-treat depth.
