JOB SUMMARY

The Shop Foreman provides day-to-day leadership and operational oversight of metal fabrication activities at the Spring Grove facility. This working supervisor is responsible for efficient workflow through the production department, including programming and operation of key equipment such as PythonX CNC plasma cutters, Ocean Clipper, Dragon X cutter, and all welding operations. The role troubleshoots fabrication issues, serves as a resource and trainer for production personnel, enforces quality and safety standards, and ensures production goals and bid hours are met. The Shop Foreman works closely with the Fabrication Operations Director, Plant Manager, Shipping Scheduler/Manager, Paint Line/Powder Coat Supervisor, and General Manager to support overall plant efficiency and on-time delivery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Shop Operations & Equipment Oversight Oversee daily shop startup (open doors, lights, equipment warm-up, post jobs) and shutdown (secure unfinished work for next shift, shut down equipment and lights, lock facility). Direct and coordinate operation of PythonX plasma cutters, Ocean Clipper, Dragon X cutter, and welding processes (MIG, TIG, stick, and tube laser welding as applicable). Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve fabrication problems that could slow production; assist Department and Job Supervisors with planning and execution of jobs. Work on the production floor during production hours to assist operators, train personnel, and maintain hands-on knowledge of processes and equipment. Coordinate maintenance work orders and ensure maintenance projects are completed in a timely manner. Scheduling, Timekeeping & Production Reporting Develop and manage the work schedule; communicate with Fabrications Operations Director and Plant Manager.

Maintain accurate time cards:

log attendance and job hours, ensuring hours align with work performed. Prepare and submit weekly reports at weekly production meetings, including job progress (positive and negative) and efficiency metrics. Support production by following planned schedules and working with Project Management, Plant Manager, and Shipping to meet bid hours and delivery commitments. Personnel Supervision & Development Supervise shop personnel; maintain employee records including attendance write-ups, warnings, and accident reports. Recommend hiring and termination decisions to management; justify new hires based on workload and production needs. Manage recordkeeping for layoffs, callbacks, time off, and vacation schedules. Administer discipline (verbal and written warnings, suspensions) and recognition (including Employee of the Month) only after consulting management. Train and coach production employees on equipment operation, quality standards, safety, and efficient work methods; identify additional training needs. Quality, Safety & Housekeeping Perform and oversee item checks: welds, dimensions/sizes, paint readiness, and outgoing loads (packing, bends, and readiness for shipment). Adhere to and enforce all LaX quality control procedures and standards; perform spot checks of QC processes. Ensure all safety practices are followed; act as a safety watchdog; participate in a minimum of six safety meetings per year. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe shop environment through daily housekeeping and ongoing enforcement of cleanliness standards. Coordination, Communication & Administration Maintain open, professional communication with all LaX employees and coordinate closely with the Fabrication Operations Director, Plant Manager, Shipping Scheduler/Manager, Paint Line/Powder Coat Supervisor, and General Manager. Provide regular updates to the General Manager and leadership on efficiency, job progress, and production issues. Write up and submit lists of needed supplies and materials; coordinate with Purchasing for ordering and recordkeeping. Complete all required paperwork accurately and return it to the office within required timeframes. Represent LaX Industries in a professional manner at all times, both on-site and when traveling to jobsites for project support or inspection. Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient plant operations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Required Proven supervisory or lead experience in a metal fabrication, welding, or manufacturing environment. Strong blueprint reading skills and practical knowledge of fabrication processes, welding, and CNC plasma cutting systems. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot fabrication issues, schedule work, and drive production efficiency. Excellent leadership, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills; ability to train and coach others. Commitment to safety, quality, and consistent enforcement of company procedures. Reliable attendance and punctuality; ability to work required shift hours and occasional overtime or road crew assignments. High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen consistent with company policy and applicable state law.

Preferred / Highly

Desired Hands-on experience with PythonX CNC plasma systems (or similar automated plasma cutting equipment). Current forklift certification (or ability to obtain promptly). Experience with ISO 9001-based manufacturing quality systems, inspection documentation, internal audits, external audit preparation, and AISC quality program requirements preferred.. Technical training, trade school, or associate degree in welding, fabrication, or manufacturing technology. Prior experience coordinating with shipping, paint/powder coat, and project management functions in a fabrication shop.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a hands-on, shop-floor supervisory position. The employee is regularly required to: Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods in a production environment. Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly; occasional heavier lifts with assistance. Operate or oversee use of powered industrial equipment (forklift, etc.) and fabrication machinery. Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, welding arcs/fumes (with PPE), heat, cold, dust, and moving machinery. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times in designated areas.

Pay:

$28.00 - $34.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
