About Undercover Snacks Undercover Snacks is a better-for-you, mission driven company that manufactures and sells an incredible line of healthy indulgent snacks, including our signature chocolate quinoa crisps, out of our company-owned, state-of-the art factory in East Hanover, NJ. Role Overview Undercover Chocolate is seeking a Maintenance & Reliability Manager to architect and lead a structured reliability program that drives measurable improvements in equipment performance, uptime, and asset integrity while also building and developing a high-performing maintenance team. This role blends reliability engineering, hands-on technical execution, people leadership, and facilities oversight. The successful candidate will design scalable maintenance systems while simultaneously building, training, and mentoring a skilled team of technicians to support long-term operational excellence. While the long-term focus is reliability engineering and team development, this role will initially remain highly hands-on, requiring direct involvement in equipment repairs and advanced technical problem-solving. Core Responsibilities Reliability Engineering & Asset Strategy Develop and implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies based on asset criticality, failure mode analysis, and lifecycle cost optimization Lead FMEA and root cause analysis initiatives to identify and eliminate chronic failure modes Establish reliability standards and best practices for equipment installation, rebuilds, and overhaul cycles Define MTBF, MTTR, OEE, and asset performance baselines and improvement targets Apply precision maintenance principles including laser alignment, equipment leveling, bearing installation standards, and controlled mechanical tolerances to extend asset life and reduce premature failures Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Systems Design and optimize PM and PdM programs using condition-based maintenance principles Implement predictive methodologies including vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasonic inspection, and oil analysis Continuously refine inspection intervals and maintenance tasks based on performance data Reliability Data & Performance Optimization Leverage Redzone and CMMS data to analyze downtime trends, chronic failures, and equipment performance patterns Translate reliability data into targeted, proactive maintenance and asset improvement strategies Reduce unplanned downtime through structured reliability initiatives CMMS & Maintenance Governance Develop structured CMMS workflows including asset hierarchies, job plans, failure codes, and preventive maintenance libraries Establish and maintain the maintenance schedule and formal reliability review process Implement backlog management and prioritization based on asset criticality Facilities & Material Handling Equipment Oversee maintenance and reliability of facility infrastructure including HVAC, utilities, building systems, and general plant maintenance Manage inspection, maintenance, and repair programs for material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, dock plates, and shipping/receiving systems Ensure all facility and equipment maintenance meets safety, compliance, and operational standards Team Building, Training & Development Build the maintenance team from the ground up through strategic hiring and workforce planning Develop structured onboarding and technical training programs for maintenance technicians Establish skills matrices and competency benchmarks to support professional growth Mentor technicians in reliability principles and advanced troubleshooting techniques Create career development pathways and succession plans for the maintenance function Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement Safety, Compliance & Process Integrity Implement and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) systems and safe maintenance practices Ensure compliance with food safety, GMP, and OSHA standards Align maintenance procedures with regulatory and SQF requirements Hands-On Technical Execution Perform complex mechanical and electrical diagnostics as needed Lead resolution of high-difficulty failures and recurring downtime events Serve as the technical escalation point for critical production equipment issues Required Experience & Qualifications 5+ years in maintenance leadership roles with strong reliability focus 3+ years in food manufacturing environments Demonstrated experience deploying maintenance and reliability programs from scratch Proven application of RCM, FMEA, PM, and PdM methodologies Experience building, training, and leading maintenance teams Experience managing facilities and material handling equipment maintenance programs Experience using CMMS systems and reliability data platforms such as Redzone Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting background Knowledge of LOTO, GMP, OSHA, and food safety compliance requirements Education & Credentials Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering preferred Equivalent experience with strong reliability background will be considered Reliability certifications (CMRP, CMRT, CRE) strongly preferred Vibration analysis or condition monitoring certification a plus What We Offer Opportunity to build and own a best-in-class maintenance & reliability program High-impact leadership role in a growing food manufacturing company Competitive compensation, performance bonus, and comprehensive benefits Environment that values structure, engineering-driven decisions, and continuous improvement
