About Us DJ Trailers & Truck Beds is a truck body upfitting and equipment business serving customers across Oklahoma and the surrounding region. We install service bodies, truck beds, and related equipment. We're looking for a hands-on leader to run the day-to-day operation of our installation shop and keep our technicians productive. Position Summary We're hiring a Shop Manager to take ownership of our installation floor and run it largely independently. Your primary responsibility is managing the shop: planning and prioritizing the work, directing our installation technicians, managing job flow from intake to completion, and keeping the crew productive. You'll have our Operations Manager to rely on for the occasional complex or unusual call, but the goal is for you to own the floor day-to-day. This is a working leadership role. You'll spend your time running the shop, and you'll also step in alongside the technicians when a job calls for it whether it be a lengthy install, a tricky build, or a busy stretch. We want a leader who is genuinely comfortable under the hood and isn't afraid to pitch in, but is focused on the bigger picture and keeping the schedule moving.
Primary Duty:
Running the Shop The core of this role is management of the installation shop, including: Directing the crew: assigning installation technicians to jobs, setting daily priorities, and keeping everyone productive.
Planning and sequencing work:
managing the flow of jobs (service bodies, truck beds, equipment upfits) from intake through completion, and adjusting the staffing of projects as needs change.
Owning quality and standards:
ensuring installs are completed correctly, safely, and to spec, and addressing issues when they come up.
Managing day-to-day operations:
coordinating parts and materials needs, keeping the shop organized and safe, and communicating status, roadblocks, and resource needs to the Operations Manager.
Developing the team:
coaching and training technicians, and providing input on hiring, scheduling, and performance. Hands-On Support (as needed) In addition to running the floor, you'll step in on the tools when it helps the team: Performing and overseeing mechanical work, including under-the-hood tasks required to mount and integrate truck equipment. Supporting the installation of hydraulic systems driven by engine-mounted pumps (clutch pumps, front-mount, etc.) including routing, mounting, and verifying proper operation. Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues that arise during builds. Required Qualifications Proven experience leading a shop floor, crew, or installation team. Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience working under the hood of trucks (light- and medium-duty). Ability to plan workloads, direct technicians, and run a shop independently. Ability to read and work from build specs, diagrams, and installation instructions. Solid problem-solving skills and a quality-first mindset. Preferred Qualifications (a plus, not required) Experience with hydraulic systems, especially engine/PTO-driven or engine-mounted pump setups. Background in truck upfitting, service body installation, or commercial equipment installation. Electrical wiring experience related to truck equipment and accessories. Welding or fabrication experience.
Note on hydraulics:
Hydraulic experience is a strong plus but not a hard requirement. We will support a mechanically strong leader in coming up to speed on engine-mounted pump installations. What Success Looks Like The installation floor runs smoothly and independently, with technicians consistently busy and jobs completing on schedule. Routine decisions are handled on the floor, with support as-needed from the Operations Manager. Installs, both standard upfits and hydraulic builds, are completed correctly the first time, with few return issues. Physical Requirements Able to lift 50 lbs, work standing/bending/kneeling for periods, and comfortably work in a shop environment. Comfortable using shop tools, hoists, and equipment safely. What We Offer Competitive salary based on experience Stable, growing local business with ample room for growth
