Maintenance Supervisor Responsibilities Lead the day-to-day operations of the maintenance shop, ensuring vehicles remain safe, reliable, and road ready. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine related issues on buses and heavy-duty vehicles. Direct and support technicians in completing scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs efficiently and safely. Monitor fleet performance and coordinate preventative maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend vehicle life. Manage work orders, maintenance records, and inventory through the company's maintenance management system. Maintain appropriate parts inventory levels and oversee ordering, tracking, and cost control. Ensure all maintenance activities meet company standards as well as DOT, federal, state/provincial, and local regulations. Partner with Operations, Safety, and Transportation teams to support service reliability and operational goals. Provide leadership, coaching, and training to maintenance team members while fostering a positive work environment. Assist with budgeting, vendor relationships, and purchasing decisions related to maintenance operations. Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the shop. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications 5+ years of supervisory experience in a fleet, truck, bus, or diesel maintenance environment. Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing medium- or heavy-duty vehicles. Experience working with charter buses, coach buses, transit buses, or other passenger transportation vehicles is a plus. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, preventative maintenance programs, and fleet operations. Familiarity with DOT regulations, compliance requirements, and vehicle inspection standards. Experience with shop scheduling, maintenance planning, and workflow coordination. Knowledge of inventory management, purchasing, and maintenance budgeting. Proficient with maintenance software, fleet management systems, and computer applications. Skilled in using diagnostic tools and troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical systems. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work flexible schedules when needed. ASE certifications are preferred but not required.
