Job Description

Job Summary The Buildings and Grounds Supervisor is responsible for the management of all school district facility operations including planning, budgeting, capital maintenance and improvements, and facility operations. The goal is to maintain the physical school facilities in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety to ensure full educational use of facilities. The Supervisor is also responsible for the district custodial, environmental, and safety programs. Responsibilities Responsible for the capital maintenance and improvements, operations, repairs, and custodial functions of all buildings and grounds of the school district. Provide a healthy, safe, and code compliant environment for students, staff, and public. Maintain adequate records on personnel, facilities, service/repair work (Preventative Maintenance Log), and supplies/equipment inventory. Inspect all district buildings, systems, sites, and related equipment on a regular, scheduled basis and develop/update long-range plans to maximize limited district resources. Recruit, screen, interview, and recommend for employment applicants for department/staff positions. Conduct the orientation, training and developing programs for custodial staff and department personnel. Conduct performance evaluations of buildings and grounds personnel as assigned. Develop and administer department capital maintenance and improvements, and operating budget. Develop and administer five-year district capital improvements and maintenance planning program. Responsible for purchase department equipment, materials, services, supplies, and vehicles in compliance with district guidelines, including but not limited to RFP specifications development for securing of bids. Works closely with Business Official/Bookkeeper, regularly communicating district wide operation and maintenance activities. Experience Experience and training in planning, construction, and management experience in operation and maintenance of school facilities. A minimum of five years supervisory level experience in a custodial, maintenance or construction related field. Demonstrated personnel management skills. Special requirements of the position include the ability to provide visionary leadership through planning, Organizing and coordinating capital maintenance and improvements, and operational activities. Demonstrated technical ability and knowledge as it pertains to construction, school buildings, building systems, and sites. Demonstrated effective communication/human relations' skills with personnel, and the general public. Demonstrated planning and problem-solving ability. Experience and knowledge of building and site maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and special systems. Proficient computer skills to accomplish management functions.
