Job Description
The Head of Maintenance is responsible for the year-round care, maintenance, and improvement of all camp facilities and grounds. This position ensures that the camp is safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained for campers, staff, and guests. During the summer season, the Head of Maintenance leads and supervises the maintenance team, coordinating daily projects and responding to the operational needs of camp. During the off-season, the role focuses on preventive maintenance, groundskeeping, facility improvements, and preparing the camp for future programs. Hours are full time from May 1st to August 31st and part time (~2 hours/day) from September 1st to April 30th. Year-Round Responsibilities Maintain all camp buildings, infrastructure, equipment, and grounds in a safe and attractive condition. Perform preventative maintenance on facilities, vehicles, utility systems, and equipment. Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance and safety issues. Complete carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and general repair projects as needed. Off-Season Responsibilities Perform periodic mowing, trimming, leaf collection, and general grounds maintenance. Complete facility improvement projects and seasonal repairs. Remove hazardous trees and limbs. Winterize and de-winterize buildings and utilities. Prepare facilities and grounds for the upcoming camp season. Summer Season Responsibilities Supervise, train, and schedule the camp maintenance crew. Prioritize and assign daily maintenance tasks. Maintain camp grounds, including mowing, landscaping, and cleanup. Oversee setup and takedown of tents, outdoor program areas, and special events. Perform emergency repairs to buildings, equipment, utilities, and vehicles. Coordinate tree removal, storm cleanup, and hazard mitigation. Support camp operations by responding promptly to maintenance requests. Foster a positive, safety-focused, and team-oriented work environment. Qualifications Experience in facility maintenance, groundskeeping, construction, or a related field. Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred. Working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general repair practices. Ability to safely operate lawn equipment, tractors, chainsaws, utility vehicles, and hand and power tools. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Valid driver's license required.
