Mechanical Maintenance Technician Martinsburg, WV based bio-medical manufacturer looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to work full-time on packaging equipment and general plant maintenance. The role sits in Engineering and Maintenance. Education and experience requirements

• High School/GED plus technical college, or a completed mechanical, millwright, or industrial maintenance apprenticeship
• 5+ years maintaining automated production or packaging machinery. Form/fill/seal, filling, and sealing equipment specifically.
• Working knowledge of pneumatics, servo and VFD-driven motion, gearboxes, bearings, chain and belt drives
• Able to read mechanical drawings, pneumatic schematics, and OEM manuals, and to work from them without a rep on site
• Comfortable with a multimeter. Basic electrical troubleshooting on 120/240/480 V circuits, motor starters, photo sensors, limit switches, and heater circuits. An electrician's license is not required.
• Experience in an FDA-regulated, cGMP, food, or pharmaceutical plant preferred, where the paperwork matters as much as the repair
• Lockout/tagout trained. Forklift or scissor lift certification is a plus. Technical responsibilities
• Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair packaging and finishing equipment: pouch form/fill/seal lines, tube fill and seal machines, auger and powder fillers, pouch sealers, stampers, labeller, polybag machine, die cutter, automatic weigher, and the package insert folder.
• Set and verify machine parameters before a run. Seal temperature, air pressure, servo and conveyor lengths, print registration, and fill weight, checked against the documented setup for that product and format rather than from memory.
• Diagnose to root cause. A line that seals inconsistently has a heat pad, a sensor, a timing, or a worn part behind it, and the job is to find which one, not to restart the machine and move on.
• Replace wear parts on schedule: motor and shaft bearings, oil seals, belts, chains, seal jaws and heat pads, heater elements, cutting dies and blades, photo sensors, and pneumatic cylinders.
• Align, level, and time mechanical assemblies.

• Maintain pneumatic circuits end to end: FRL units, regulators, solenoid valves, cylinders, fittings, and routine leak checks.
• Support the rest of the plant's mechanical assets when packaging is running clean: cutters, grinder, CNC cutter, vacuum and homogenizer mixers, RO system, air compressors and dryers, fan filter units, walk-in cooler and freezer, and general facility mechanical work.
• Perform preventative maintenance against the PM form schedule for each machine, complete the form in full, and write down the corrective action taken rather than ticking the box.
• Fabricate and modify simple parts, guards, and brackets. Braze, solder, and light welding as the job needs.
• Verify repairs with instruments before releasing equipment back to production: gauges, thermocouples, tachometer, multimeter, and dial indicators. Record the readings. Records and coordination
• Write up every job against the equipment tool number: symptom, cause, work performed, parts consumed. Planned work goes on a PM work order, breakdowns go on the emergency sheet. Both get written up.
• Check spare parts and consumables stock before committing to a repair window. Flag anything at or below the order point in the same breath, rather than discovering it with the machine already open.
• Coordinate downtime with production. Packaging maintenance is scheduled into low-demand shifts and slotted around the run plan.
• Communicate with supervisors, peers, and operators by phone, email, or in person, and keep the operators who run the machine daily in the loop on what changed.
• Keep the maintenance log, machine status, and spares records current. A job is finished when the records match the floor. Other requirements
• Willingness to learn quickly about the various equipment, much of it from OEM catalogs, manuals, and recorded setup videos
• Around 40 hours a week, with overtime as production demands
• Available on call for breakdowns that stop a production line
• Follow cGMP, gowning, and hygiene requirements when working inside controlled production areas
• Wear protective gear, safety goggles, safety boots, and hearing protection as the task requires, and apply lockout/tagout on any powered equipment
• Valid driver's license
• Candidates must pass a standard employee background check for job site security purposes.
