Refrigeration Electrical Technican
Job Description
Job Overview Refrigeration Electrical Job Duties A refrigeration electrical technician combines knowledge of refrigeration systems with electrical skills to install, maintain, and repair refrigeration equipment. Their duties often overlap with those of general refrigeration technicians, but with a stronger focus on electrical components and controls.
Key Job Duties and Responsibilities Installation of Refrigeration Systems :
Assemble and position refrigeration uninstall and wire control panels, contactors, relays, and other electrical components. Ensure proper insulation and grounding of electrical systems.
Electrical Troubleshooting and Repairs :
Diagnose and repair electrical faults such as motor failures, control board issues, thermostats, switches, and wiring problems. Test circuits and components using electrical and mechanical testing tools. Replace defective electrical parts (motors, contactors, sensors, etc.) and ensure correct wiring.
Maintenance and Preventive Care :
Perform routine inspections of electrical connections, controls, and motors. Clean and inspect coils, fans, and electrical enclosures to prevent overheating and short circuits. Keep refrigeration inventory updated and order replacement parts as needed.
System Adjustments and Controls :
Calibrate and test PLC controllers, sensors, and other automation devices. Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and refrigeration control specifications.
• CDL preferred. Run and deliver routes of products and supplies and help our current Dairy Technician.
• Work after hours and do weekend calls
Compliance and Safety :
Follow EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements for refrigerant handling and electrical work. Maintain proper documentation of electrical work and system performance.
Customer and Team Support :
Provide advice on energy efficiency and equipment upgrades. Work with maintenance teams on refrigeration, pneumatics, and hydraulics projects. Skills and Qualifications Often Required Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems, plus electrical theory and practice. Ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints. Proficiency with hand tools, soldering, and wiring. Understanding of refrigerant safety and handling. Certifications such as EPA, OSHA, or HVAC-related credentials. In short, a refrigeration electrical technician's job duties revolve around installing, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration systems with a focus on electrical components , ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operation. Experience Proven construction experience with HVAC system installation and building automation systems is highly desirable. Service technician experience working with refrigeration (including ammonia refrigeration) and HVAC/R equipment is essential. Familiarity with schematics, wiring diagrams, plumbing, boiler operation, appliance repair, and property maintenance enhances your effectiveness in this role. Hands-on experience using diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters and field service equipment is necessary for accurate troubleshooting. Knowledge of HVAC design principles, electrical systems, air conditioning units, and maintenance procedures is crucial for success. Certification such as EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) refrigerant handling certification is required; additional certifications in HVAC or electrical fields are a plus.
