In this role, you will install and retrofit a range of fire- and ember-resistant systems on residential structures; mesh vent screens, fire-rated vents, boxed eaves, gutter guards, and protective coatings, while working safely at height on tile, stucco, and roofs. Your workmanship directly determines whether a home stands or burns when embers arrive, so precision, care, and attention to code detail are essential. This position is an excellent opportunity for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in building work, enjoys working outdoors, and wants their labor to make a tangible difference in the communities we serve. Responsibilities Install and retrofit ember-resistant mesh (WDM 75/98) over gable, foundation, dormer, and under-eave vents, cutting and fitting screen to precise openings for a clean, durable finish. Replace existing vents with ember- and fire-resistant units (e.g., Brandguard), ensuring correct net free area and code-compliant coverage. Enclose and box open eaves using fiber cement (James Hardie) board, including framing, cutting, fastening, and finishing to a professional standard. Install stainless-steel gutter guards (FireStorm) and related debris-management systems along rooflines. Apply fire-retardant and intumescent coatings and sprays (Phos-Chek FORTIFY, FireFree 88, FfE topcoat, DeckGuard) following manufacturer specifications for prep, coverage, and cure. Work safely at height on tile, stucco, composition, and shake roofs using approved non-penetrating fall-protection anchors and personal fall-arrest systems. Read and interpret proposals, scopes of work, and property assessments to execute the specified retrofit accurately on each home. Conduct on-site wildfire home assessments, documenting vents, eaves, decks, and other ember-entry vulnerabilities with photos and measurements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site, protecting the customer's property and communicating professionally with homeowners throughout the work. Follow all safety protocols rigorously, including ladder safety, roof access, power-tool use, and PPE requirements. Perform routine inspections and quality checks on completed work to confirm code compliance and long-term performance. Experience (no experience needed training will be provided. Listed below are experience will be beneficial to the role) Proven hands-on experience in construction, general contracting, roofing, exterior remodeling, or a related building trade. Comfort and competence working at height on residential roofs, with a strong personal commitment to fall-protection and jobsite safety. Solid finish-carpentry and fastening skills measuring, cutting, and fitting screen, board, and trim cleanly and accurately. Ability to read and follow a scope of work, project plans, and product specifications. Familiarity with fiber cement board, ember-resistant mesh, vent products, or protective coatings is a strong plus (training provided). Skilled use of common hand and power tools, ladders, and, where applicable, spray-application equipment. Strong customer-service instincts, with the ability to represent the company professionally on a homeowner's property. Reliable, punctual, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a small crew. Valid California driver's license and clean driving record required; the ability to lift and carry materials and work in outdoor conditions is essential. Knowledge of WUI (Wildland-Urban Interface) building codes, Chapter 7A, or wildfire home-hardening standards is highly desirable. Join us if you take pride in building work that matters! Bring your skills to a growing team that values safety, craftsmanship, and doing right by our clients where the homes you harden today may be the ones still standing after the next fire.
