RKI Instruments, Inc., an innovative and growing gas detection company located in Union City, CA is looking for an Optical Engineering Technician to assemble, setup, and calibrate optically based gas detection instruments. Applicant must be comfortable handling delicate, sensitive, high value optical components and keep a clean and organized work area. Responsibilities Assemble and align optical subassemblies. Assemble, setup, and calibrate optically based instruments. Maintain stock of parts to build instruments. Maintain work areas and equipment used to setup and calibrate instruments. Skills and Knowledge Ability to work proficiently with electronic instrumentation including an oscilloscope, frequency counter, logic analyzer and DVM. Work experience with lasers, optical equipment, and aligning optics preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools and microcontroller development environments. Experience with Atmel Studio and Microsoft Visual Studio preferred. Ability to understand technical drawings. Ability to follow step by step instructions but with the technical skills to identify, troubleshoot and resolve issues that may not be covered in the instructions. Familiarity with gas mixing and using test gas to setup and calibrate an instrument preferred. Experience with surface mount component soldering, wire crimping, and assembling small electronic components under a microscope. Ability to select resistor or other component values through observation of signals, spreadsheet calculations and real time iterations for desired operation. Identify methodical repetition practices through trial and error to achieve desired or improved results. Understanding of and working knowledge with optical terms like spectra emissions and wavelength preferred. Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
