Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Optical Technician to handle precision optical fabrication, quality control, and component processing. This role spans conventional precision manufacturing—working with specialized infrared optics for defense and photonics applications—as well as standard lens processing and adjustment. U.S.
Citizenship Requirement:
This position supports programs subject to U.S. government regulations and customer contractual obligations. Therefore, candidates must be U.S. citizens to be eligible for employment.
Perform conventional optical fabrication including grinding, lapping, and polishing of optical components to strict tolerances.
Specialized Machinery Operation:
Utilize Strasbaugh polishing equipment alongside both manual pitch polishing and machine-based fabrication processes.
Material Handling:
Work with infrared materials, including Germanium (Ge), Silicon (Si), Zinc Selenide (ZnSe), and Zinc Sulfide (ZnS).
Lens Fabrication & Processing:
Cut, grind, polish, and edge raw lens blanks to match precise specifications and frames using laboratory machinery.
Quality Inspection:
Verify finished optic measurements, axis, and power using a lensometer and precision measuring instruments to guarantee accuracy.
Assembly, Adjustment & Repair:
Align, adjust, and repair frames or optical components for proper fit, comfort, and performance.
Measurements & Dispensing:
Obtain accurate optical measurements (such as pupillary distance) and guide selections for frame styles, coatings, and lens materials.
Equipment Maintenance:
Clean, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate laboratory tools, Strasbaugh equipment, and fabrication machinery.
Key Qualifications & Requirements Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training, technical degree, or certification in optical technology preferred.
Technical Expertise:
Demonstrated experience in conventional optical fabrication within defense, aerospace, or photonics environments.
Machinery & Process Skills:
Hands-on experience operating Strasbaugh polishers, plus proficiency in manual pitch polishing techniques.
Infrared Material Experience:
Direct familiarity with handling and processing IR materials (Germanium, Silicon, ZnSe, ZnS).
Manual Dexterity & Precision:
Excellent fine motor skills and steady hands for handling delicate, high-value optical components and small hardware. Attention to

Meticulous approach to quality control to prevent minor measurement or surface figure errors.
Communication:
Clear interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively with optometrists, engineers, ophthalmologists, and clients. U.S.
