An established local service company is preparing to add residential irrigation services in the spring of 2027. We are looking for an experienced irrigation technician who is interested in helping us build and manage this new division. This position is intended for someone with strong hands-on irrigation experience who is comfortable diagnosing and repairing residential sprinkler systems. We are not looking for someone who needs to be trained in the basics of irrigation. The person in this position should have a thorough understanding of how irrigation systems work and be able to troubleshoot problems independently. The initial work will consist primarily of spring irrigation startups, system inspections, summer adjustments and repairs, and fall winterization. You will work directly with residential customers, evaluate their systems, explain problems and recommended repairs, and complete the work.
Typical responsibilities will include:
Spring irrigation startups and inspections Troubleshooting irrigation systems and identifying the cause of problems Adjusting sprinkler heads, nozzles and zones Repairing and replacing sprinkler heads and valves Troubleshooting irrigation controllers and wiring Diagnosing electrical problems Finding and repairing leaks Repairing underground pipe and fittings Programming and adjusting irrigation controllers Evaluating sprinkler coverage and making recommendations Performing customer-requested repairs and system improvements Providing repair estimates Fall system winterization Maintaining service records and communicating with customers We are looking for someone who has extensive experience with residential irrigation systems and understands the equipment and components used in the trade. Experience with different brands of controllers, valves and sprinkler equipment is preferred. The ability to troubleshoot is particularly important. We want someone who can arrive at a system they have never worked on, determine why a zone isn't operating correctly, identify whether the problem is electrical, mechanical, hydraulic or related to the controller, and determine the appropriate repair. Because this is a new division, the person hired will have considerable input into how we operate it. This will include helping determine the equipment and parts we need, developing service procedures, establishing repair and estimating practices, and helping determine how we schedule and handle irrigation customers. As the customer base grows, we expect the department to grow as well. The person hired for this position will have the opportunity to take on additional responsibility and eventually help train and oversee additional irrigation technicians. We are looking to find the right person before the 2027 season so there is adequate time to discuss the position and prepare for the launch of the department. The expected start of field operations will be spring 2027. The ideal candidate will have several years of residential irrigation experience, be dependable, comfortable working independently, and able to communicate professionally with homeowners. A valid driver's license is required. Compensation will be based on experience and technical ability. We are willing to pay well for someone with extensive irrigation knowledge and the ability to help build and eventually lead the department. If you have significant experience in irrigation service and are interested in having a major role in building a new irrigation division, we would like to talk with you.
