Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Avaya/Lucent PBX Technician to join our telecommunications team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Avaya and Lucent Private Branch Exchange (PBX) systems to ensure seamless communication operations across various client environments. Your technical expertise will help optimize telephony systems, support customer service excellence, and ensure reliable voice and data connectivity. Duties Install, configure, and test Avaya and Lucent PBX systems, ensuring proper integration with existing network infrastructure. Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues related to telephony, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), and related communication systems using diagnostic tools. Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and repairs on telecommunications hardware including switches, routers, and cabling infrastructure. Conduct fiber splicing, structured cabling installation (including Cat5, Cat6), and low-voltage electrical wiring to support telecommunication systems. Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to accurately install and troubleshoot complex communication systems. Utilize computer networking skills to configure Ethernet networks, Cisco routers, Juniper equipment, and network wiring for optimal performance. Test radio frequency (RF) signals and perform telecommunications testing using specialized equipment to ensure system integrity. Assist with fiber optic systems installation and repair while adhering to NEC (National Electrical Code) standards for electrical safety. Support field service operations by providing on-site technical assistance for clients' telecommunication needs. Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, repairs, upgrades, and service reports for accountability and future reference. Experience Proven experience as a telecommunications or service technician with a focus on Avaya or Lucent PBX systems. Strong background in computer networking including LAN/WAN configurations, Ethernet cabling (Cat5/Cat6), and network installation procedures. Hands-on experience with fiber splicing, fiber optic systems installation, and troubleshooting optical networks. Familiarity with VoIP technologies, telephony systems integration, and telecommunication testing equipment. Skilled in the use of diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters, multimeters, cable testers, and other electrical testing devices. Knowledge of low-voltage electrical wiring standards per NEC regulations; electrical experience is highly valued. Service technician experience in data centers or large enterprise environments is preferred. Ability to read schematics accurately and follow technical manuals for complex system setups. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients at all levels of understanding. Experience working with Cisco routers, Juniper equipment, radio frequency testing tools, power tools, hand tools, and electrical safety protocols.
