Full-time, year-round position; 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday Position Summary We are seeking a skilled, dependable, and safety-minded Fiber Technician to help build, maintain, and support the fiber optic network that keeps local homes, farms, businesses, and community organizations connected. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in quality workmanship, and wants to make a visible impact in the rural communities we serve. What You'll Do Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair fiber optic facilities, including customer drops, conduit, handholes, pedestals, vaults, and fiber cable. Perform fiber optic splicing, testing, acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and restoration using OTDRs, power meters, and related test equipment. Install and maintain customer premise equipment, including ONTs, routers, network interface equipment, and related broadband service components. Read and interpret utility maps, fiber records, staking sheets, construction drawings, and service orders. Assist with underground fiber construction, drop placement, route maintenance, and outside plant repair. Operate and maintain vehicles, tools, construction equipment, and field technology in a safe and professional manner. Respond to customer service requests, outages, and trouble tickets with a courteous, solutions-focused approach. Coordinate with contractors, utility locators, landowners, and internal team members to complete projects safely, accurately, and efficiently. Maintain accurate records of work performed, splicing activity, facility changes, service orders, materials used, and as-built updates. Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency network restoration and service continuity. Follow all company policies, safety procedures, damage prevention practices, and applicable industry standards. What We're Looking For Experience in telecommunications, fiber optics, broadband installation, outside plant operations, utility construction, or a related field. Fiber splicing, testing, and troubleshooting experience preferred. Knowledge of broadband networks, fiber facilities, customer premise equipment, and rural communications infrastructure. Ability to interpret maps, prints, service orders, and technical documentation. Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and field technology. Commitment to safe work practices, customer service, teamwork, and reliable follow-through. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically active work, including lifting, climbing, bending, trenching, and working around construction environments. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Technical degree, fiber certification, telecommunications training, or equivalent work experience preferred. Work Environment and Physical Requirements This position includes a mix of field, customer-premise, and outside plant work. The Fiber Technician must be able to work safely near utilities, roadways, construction areas, and customer locations. The role may require lifting and carrying equipment, working in confined spaces, using ladders, walking uneven terrain, and responding to service needs outside normal business hours when assigned to on-call duties.
