Job Description

Boat Rigging Technician / Mechanic The Boat Place is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined Boat Rigging Technician / Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for preparing new and pre-owned boats for customers, installing marine equipment and accessories, performing mechanical work, troubleshooting issues, and helping ensure every boat leaves our dealership ready for the water. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, problem solving, and working with boats, engines, electrical systems, and accessories.
Primary Responsibilities:
Rig and prepare new and pre-owned boats for customer delivery. Install and rig outboard motors and related components. Install marine electronics, trolling motors, batteries, chargers, gauges, switches, and other accessories. Perform basic 12-volt electrical wiring, connections, and troubleshooting. Install steering systems, controls, cables, fuel components, and other marine equipment. Perform routine maintenance and basic mechanical repairs on boats and outboard motors. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and rigging-related issues. Inspect boats and equipment for proper operation before customer delivery. Assist with setup and preparation of incoming inventory. Perform final checks to ensure completed work is clean, organized, safe, and ready for the customer. Maintain an organized work area and properly care for dealership tools and equipment. Communicate with the service and sales teams regarding job status, parts needs, problems, and completion timelines. Assist with other dealership and service department responsibilities as needed.
What We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, dependable, detail-oriented, and takes pride in the quality of their work. The right candidate should be comfortable working independently while also communicating and working effectively with the rest of the dealership team. The workload can change throughout the day based on customer deliveries, incoming inventory, service work, and dealership priorities. The ability to complete jobs efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and adjusting priorities when necessary is important. Previous experience in marine service, boat rigging, automotive repair, powersports, small engines, electrical work, mechanical trades, or a similar hands-on position is preferred. However, we are willing to consider candidates with strong mechanical ability and a willingness to learn. Experience with any of the following is a plus: Outboard motors Boat rigging Marine electronics Trolling motors 12-volt electrical systems Batteries and charging systems Steering and control systems Mechanical troubleshooting Trailer maintenance and repair Automotive, powersports, or small-engine repair Previous marine industry experience is helpful but not necessarily required . Mechanical aptitude, reliability, attention to detail, and willingness to learn are extremely important.
Work Environment:
This is a hands-on position that includes working in and around boats, trailers, engines, tools, batteries, and marine equipment. Work may take place both indoors and outdoors depending on the job and time of year. Candidates should be comfortable standing, bending, climbing in and out of boats, using hand and power tools, and safely lifting and moving equipment associated with normal boat rigging and service work.
Pay:
From $18.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 46.0 per week
