Job Description

Position Summary The primary responsibilities of the Small Engine Technician are to maintain the rental fleet of power equipement and support the store management team. Part Time Benefits Include Employee discount program Flexible Hours Major Responsibilities The Small Engine Repair Technician diagnoses mechanical, fuel, and electrical malfunctions in outdoor power equipment and light machinery. The role requires strong technical problem-solving skills, manual dexterity, and the ability to work independently or as part of a service team. Technicians must ensure all repaired equipment operates safely and meets manufacturer specifications before it is returned to the client.
Core Responsibilities Equipment Repair :
Disassemble engines, replace worn or defective components (like carburetors, pistons, or electrical systems), and reassemble units.
Routine Maintenance :
Perform preventative care, including oil changes, spark plug replacements, fuel system flushes, and blade sharpening.
Customer Service :
Discuss equipment issues with customers, provide accurate cost estimates for labor and parts, and explain completed repairs.
Record Keeping :
Track all repairs made, parts ordered, time spent, and warranty paperwork using digital or physical logging systems.
Shop Safety :
Maintain a clean, organized, and well-ventilated workspace to ensure safety compliance and tool accountability.
Assembly:
Be able to follow directions to assemble a variety of lawnmowers, snow blowers, grills, and wheelbarrows for resale on the sales floor.
Key Requirements Education :
High school diploma, GED, or a postsecondary certificate in small engine repair or automotive technology.
Skills :
Strong mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and electrical multimeters.
Physical Demands :
Ability to lift heavy equipment (often 50+ lbs), stand for long periods, and work in shop environments.
