Position Overview The Tire Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and replacement of tires across the fleet. This role ensures all vehicles in the yard and shop are equipped with safe, properly installed, and well-maintained tires. The position plays a critical role in vehicle safety, uptime, and preventative maintenance by proactively identifying tire issues and maintaining organized inventory within the tire bay. This position is a full time, Monday through Friday role from 3:00pm-11:30pm. Saturdays following holidays are mandatory and overtime is sometimes available. Our Work:
Maintain a clean, organized tire bay and ensure quality workmanship on every install. Key Responsibilities Perform daily tire inspections across all trucks in the yard, checking for low pressure, flats, damage, and tread wear Remove, install, and repair tires for a variety of vehicles including rear-load, front-load, roll-off, and support vehicles Properly torque wheels after installation and complete required re-torque checks following initial use Install and monitor lug nut indicators to ensure ongoing wheel security Maintain and clean wheel rims, ensuring all contact surfaces are free of dirt, debris, and rust prior to installation Organize and maintain tire inventory by size and type (including 11R, 315, super single/UD, and semi truck steer and drive tires) Ensure adequate inventory of spare tires is available to support road calls and shop needs Inspect inactive or "dead" trucks in the yard weekly to recover usable tires and return them to inventory Assist with roadside tire service calls as needed Maintain a clean, safe, and organized tire bay and work area Track and communicate tire usage, inventory levels, and replacement needs Follow all shop safety procedures and OSHA guidelines All other duties as assigned by management Skills and Qualifications Education & Experiences High school diploma or GED preferred Previous experience in tire service, heavy-duty truck maintenance, or automotive repair preferred Skills and Competencies Knowledge of tire installation, repair, and inspection procedures Ability to safely operate tire service equipment and tools Strong attention to detail, especially regarding safety and torque specifications Ability to work independently and manage daily inspection routines Dependable with strong attendance and work ethic Basic mechanical aptitude Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 75 pounds regularly Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting throughout the shift Ability to handle large, heavy-duty truck tires Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods Work Environment Indoor and outdoor work in a mechanic shop and yard environment Exposure to vehicle traffic, heavy equipment, noise, and varying weather conditions Regular handling of large tires, tools, and mechanical equipment Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times Essential Functions Statement The essential functions listed above are representative of the knowledge, skills, and or/abilities required for this position.
