48 Road Maintenance Worker I Under general supervision, to perform a variety of assignments in the maintenance, repair, and construction of roads, bridges, landfill, and drainage systems; to operate light equipment; and to do related work as required. This classification is a for cause, non-exempt position. Distinguishing Characteristics This is the first experienced working level in the Road Maintenance Worker class series. Incumbents are assigned to variety of maintenance, repair, construction, and light equipment operation assignments. They may operate heavy construction and maintenance equipment, similar to that operated by a Road Maintenance Worker II, in a training capacity, or, on an emergency basis. Incumbents are not expected to display the same level of skill and accuracy in heavy equipment operation required of a Road Maintenance Worker II. Incumbents in this class are subject to twenty-four hour call-out for road related emergencies and snow removal. This classification may be flexibly staffed, if allocated to the hiring department as flexibly staffed. Work experience must include training and background in truck or light equipment operations.

Special Requirements:

Must have a valid driver's license
Applicants will be required to submit to a pre-employment physical examination.
Applicants must obtain and maintain a valid Class A driver's license within the first six months of employment with applicable endorsements and certifications.

NOTE:

One year of road maintenance work and construction experience comparable to that of a Road Maintenance Worker I with the County of Siskiyou.

Work experience must include training and background in heavy equipment operations.

Special Requirements:

Possession of a valid and current Class A driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
Incumbents transporting hazardous materials may be required to possess special endorsements.

This job classification is required to participate in the County of Siskiyou Drug and Alcohol Testing program as mandated by the Department of Transportation.
