Job Summary Responsible for operating and maintaining department equipment, assists with maintenance and repairs to city streets, alleys and storm sewer collection systems for the City of McPherson. This position is non-exempt and has an hourly range of $21.88-$31.48. Job Competencies and Essential Job Functions Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Schedule, shift assignments, and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
Performs a wide variety of manual, skilled, and semi-skilled construction and maintenance work, including digging trenches, placing and finishing concrete, spraying herbicides, loading and unloading vehicles, moving materials and equipment, litter abatement, painting, street patching, and curb repair
Operates motor-driven equipment and dump trucks on streets, highways, and over terrain
Cleans, maintains, and properly stores tools and equipment
Performs minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment
Cleans, maintains, and stores painting equipment
Operates hand and portable tools
Places traffic control devices and warning signs in accordance with MUTCD and monitors traffic flow
Fabricates and installs street signs and cleans storm drains, drainage ditches and culverts
Uses chemicals and/or other supplies
Provides and participates in emergency responses which may include traffic control for extended periods, continual and strenuous sandbagging, emergency repairs to public facilities, assisting with evacuations and other
Operates various power-driven equipment including aerial lift, air compressor, grinders, trucks, front loader, and skid steer
Enforces compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all organizational and departmental policies
Operates required equipment/tools
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information (oral, written, or electronic)
Consistent and reliable attendance is required; employees must report to work regularly, on time, and in accordance with their assigned schedule Position Requirements and Qualifications Education / Experience requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Four years of similar or related experience Licenses /
Certifications:
Valid Kansas Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and maintain a good driving record
Completed training in Confined Space, trench safety, MUTCD and equipment maintenance-operation training for operator in training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of concrete work, equipment maintenance, signing procedures, work zone safety procedures and road construction techniques and repairs
Strong time management and prioritization

Proficiency in math, spelling, computer use, and calculators
