In this energetic role, you will be responsible for directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic around active work zones, helping to protect workers and the public alike. Your keen attention to safety protocols and ability to communicate clearly will contribute significantly to the success of our civil infrastructure projects. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of impactful highway maintenance, road construction, and utility installation efforts. Duties Safely direct traffic around construction sites, work zones, and road closures using standardized hand signals and signage Set up and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, barriers, signs, and flagging equipment in accordance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations Communicate effectively with construction crews, drivers, pedestrians, and supervisors to ensure clear understanding of traffic patterns and safety procedures Monitor work zones continuously for hazards or unsafe conditions, promptly reporting issues to site supervisors Assist with the setup and removal of temporary traffic control measures during different phases of construction activities Support heavy equipment operation by guiding machinery operators during site activities involving dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, or dump trucks Maintain a safe work environment by adhering strictly to safety protocols related to outdoor work, heavy lifting, manual handling, and the use of power tools Skills Proven experience in traffic control for work zones within construction or civil infrastructure projects Knowledge of heavy equipment operation including dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, front loader trucks, dump trucks, and Caterpillar machinery Mechanical aptitude with familiarity in using hand tools and power tools for setup or minor adjustments Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual handling safely over extended periods outdoors in various weather conditions Strong understanding of highway maintenance practices and utility locating techniques Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with team members and ensure compliance with safety standards Working knowledge of FMCSA regulations governing commercial truck driving and safety requirements in construction environments This role is perfect for individuals passionate about outdoor work who thrive in fast-paced environments focused on safety and efficiency.
