Hiring Equipment Operator II (CDL) Description Operates assigned heavy and light equipment and performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair, and construction of County roads and rights-of-way. Examples of Duties The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed. They are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Employees may be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities as needed. Supports the safe and effective maintenance of County roadways to ensure public access and mobility.

Drives dump trucks and transports materials such as dirt, gravel, asphalt, and other aggregates to and from job sites.

Operates a variety of road maintenance equipment, including but not limited to front-end loaders, zippers, mixers, chippers, rollers, and other assigned machinery.

Performs road patching, pothole repair, and preparation of road base; assists in mixing and applying materials used in roadway construction and resurfacing.

Loads, lifts, and moves materials such as concrete bags, tools, and equipment.

Performs general roadway maintenance, including clearing debris, trimming trees and vegetation, and maintaining drainage areas.

Responds to road maintenance emergencies, weather-related events, and after-hours call-outs as required.

Follows all applicable safety regulations, operational procedures, and County standards related to road maintenance and equipment operation.

Conducts routine inspections of assigned equipment and reports maintenance needs or safety concerns.

Performs other related duties as apparent and/or assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent; and

Three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment and performing road maintenance work; or

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.

Required Knowledge

Principles and practices of road and bridge maintenance, repair, and construction.

Federal, state, and local regulations governing public roadway and bridge maintenance.

Tools, equipment, and materials used in road construction and maintenance operations.

Occupational hazards and required safety practices related to road maintenance and heavy equipment operation.

Road maintenance terminology, documentation, and reporting standards.

Required Skills

Safe and effective operation of heavy equipment used in road maintenance and construction.

Proper care, inspection, and maintenance of departmental equipment and tools.

Performing a wide range of skilled and routine road maintenance tasks.

Supporting the Countys mission to maintain safe and functional roadways.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public. Supplemental Information Physical Demands / Work Environment Work is performed primarily outdoors and involves operating equipment, standing, walking, bending, and lifting objects up to 95 pounds.

Exposure to extreme weather conditions, loud noise, moving machinery, vehicle traffic, dust, fumes, and typical construction-site hazards.

Other Must successfully complete background check, post-offer drug screen, physical condition evaluation and/or other testing in accordance with Harrison County policy and/or as authorized by law.
