East Coast Underground East Coast Underground is currently seeking experienced and motivated Underground Distribution Linemen for the following classifications: A Lineman / Journeyman Lineman B Lineman C Lineman We are looking for individuals with underground electrical distribution experience who take pride in their work, understand the importance of safety, and are willing to work as part of a professional utility construction crew.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS - ALL CLASSIFICATIONS
Able and willing to travel when required. Able and willing to work away from home for extended periods when required. Able and willing to work overtime and extended hours when required. Strong commitment to safety and compliance. Able to perform physically demanding utility construction work. Able to work outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Able to work effectively as part of a team. Maintain a professional attitude with coworkers, customers, subcontractors and the general public. Maintain company vehicles, equipment, tools and materials in good working condition. Follow company, customer and OSHA safety requirements. Valid driver's license required. Class A CDL highly preferred.
A LINEMAN / JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN
The A Lineman / Journeyman Lineman must possess advanced knowledge of underground electrical distribution systems and be capable of safely performing work with minimal supervision. Requirements & Responsibilities Able to perform rigorous physical labor including digging, rigging, lifting, cable pulling and material handling. Able to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit. Possess working knowledge of OSHA excavation, shoring and trenching standards. Proficient in all aspects of working with energized underground enclosures and equipment. Proficient in understanding and reading blueprints, staking sheets, construction prints and work orders. Able to properly pull and install underground primary and secondary conductors. Capable of leading the preparation and installation of pad-mounted transformers and underground enclosures with minimal supervision. Comprehensive knowledge of underground primary cable preparation and termination. Comprehensive knowledge of secondary cable, connections and terminations. Capable of performing underground loop switching when qualified and authorized. Understand proper switching procedures and system configuration. Proficient in operation or setup of underground utility equipment including: Backhoes Mini excavators Trenchers Digger derricks Knuckle-boom/crane trucks Cable pulling equipment Proficient in heavy lifting and rigging. Understand proper transformer and equipment rigging procedures. Familiar with induced voltage. Proficient in grounding procedures. Understand proper testing and grounding of underground conductors. Capable of working in vaults and confined spaces when properly trained and authorized. Properly install, remove and inspect rubber goods, cover-up and PPE. Understand how to phase underground circuits using phasing sticks. Understand proper use and care of phasing equipment. Understand minimum approach distance. Understand flag and tag procedures. Understand electrical clearance and isolation procedures. Capable of planning safe work from a job print, staking sheet or work order. Capable of troubleshooting underground distribution systems. Capable of safely installing and removing mechanical jumpers when applicable. Must be able to effectively lead a Job Safety Analysis, JTSA, tailboard or pre-job briefing. Able to step into a leadership role when the Foreman is unavailable. Able and willing to train and share knowledge with B Linemen, C Linemen and other crew members. Demonstrate good judgment, strong work ethic and professional conduct.
B LINEMAN
The B Lineman must possess working knowledge of underground distribution construction and be capable of performing progressively more advanced tasks under the direction of an A Lineman or Foreman. Requirements & Responsibilities Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance and repair of energized and de-energized underground distribution systems under appropriate supervision. Able to perform rigorous physical labor. Capable of pulling underground primary and secondary conductors. Understand proper underground cable pulling techniques. Assist with installation of pad-mounted transformers and underground electrical equipment. Assist with primary cable preparation and terminations. Assist with secondary connections and terminations. Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working condition. Understand and continue learning OSHA excavation, trenching and shoring standards. Understand basic distribution voltages. Familiar with induced voltage. Capable of reading and understanding basic blueprints, staking sheets and construction prints. Capable of assisting with inspection and troubleshooting of underground distribution systems. Able to work independently on de-energized systems when authorized. Able to assist with installing compression connections. Capable of working in trenches, vaults and confined spaces when properly trained. Capable of properly installing and removing PPE and protective equipment. Capable of properly inspecting rubber goods and PPE. Understand commonly used lineman and rigging knots. Capable of making up and using a hand line. Understand principles of proper equipment setup. Able to identify materials commonly used in underground electrical distribution. Understand minimum approach distance. Understand flag and tag procedures. Understand basic grounding procedures. Assist with rigging and material handling. Learn proper phasing procedures. Learn underground switching procedures. Work effectively within a crew environment. Receive instruction from Foremen and qualified A Linemen. Demonstrate continued progression toward A Lineman / Journeyman level.
C LINEMAN
The C Lineman works under the direct supervision and instruction of qualified employees while developing the skills necessary to advance in underground electrical distribution construction. Requirements & Responsibilities Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance and repair of underground distribution systems. Perform de-energized work and assist with energized work under the direct supervision of a qualified employee where permitted. Able to perform rigorous physical labor. Assist with pulling underground primary and secondary conductors. Assist with underground cable preparation. Assist with installation of pad-mounted transformers, junction cabinets and underground enclosures. Assist with secondary installations and connections. Assist with installation of conduit, vaults, handholes and related underground facilities. Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working condition. Learn distribution voltages and underground electrical system components. Familiar with induced voltage and associated hazards. Learn to understand and read blueprints, staking sheets and construction drawings. Assist with inspection and troubleshooting. Work effectively as part of a crew. Able to work on de-energized systems under appropriate supervision. Learn underground cable pulling techniques. Assist with compression connections. Work safely in trenches, excavations and confined spaces when properly trained. Properly install and remove PPE and protective equipment. Properly inspect rubber goods and PPE before use. Understand commonly used lineman knots. Capable of making up and using a hand line. Learn grounding procedures. Understand basic principles of proper equipment setup. Identify common materials used in underground distribution construction. Understand minimum approach distance. Understand flag and tag procedures. Assist with rigging and material handling. Follow instructions from Foremen, A Linemen and other qualified employees. Demonstrate willingness to learn and advance through the underground lineman classifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees may be required to: Stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch and crawl. Work in trenches, excavations, vaults and confined areas. Frequently lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing approximately 40 pounds. Occasionally lift or maneuver materials weighing approximately 75 pounds or more with appropriate assistance or lifting equipment. Perform repetitive lifting, cable handling, rigging and material handling. Work around moving vehicles and heavy equipment. Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, humidity, mud, dust and other adverse conditions. Work around insects, wildlife and other common outdoor hazards. Possess adequate close, distance, peripheral, depth and color vision necessary for electrical utility work.

$26.47 - $52.32 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
