Responsibilities Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables, telecommunications networks, and electrical systems in outdoor settings. Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other construction machinery safely and efficiently. Use diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot issues within fiber optic networks, LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), and telephony systems. Perform telecommunications cable splicing, fiber splicing, and network infrastructure installation following schematics and technical drawings. Climb poles or towers using safety harnesses while adhering to the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards. Interpret technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and construction plans to support accurate installation and troubleshooting efforts. Conduct outdoor work with a focus on safety protocols, including proper use of hand tools, power tools, and low voltage electrical systems. Support telecommunications outside plant operations by maintaining cable routes, testing network connectivity, and supporting fiber optic network expansion projects. Assist in the interpretation of technical troubleshooting support for engineering teams to resolve complex issues efficiently. Maintain detailed records of work performed, including cable splicing logs, test results, and safety inspections. Experience Prior experience in field service roles involving outdoor work environments is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks or similar machinery safely. Hands-on experience with fiber optic systems installation, splicing, and troubleshooting is essential. Knowledge of telecommunications testing equipment and network cabling standards is required. Construction experience related to electrical or telecommunication infrastructure is advantageous. Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards for outdoor electrical work. Strong technical troubleshooting skills supporting fiber optic networks or IT infrastructure projects. Ability to interpret schematics, technical drawings, and computer networking concepts including Ethernet, LAN/WAN configurations. Climbing experience on utility poles or towers combined with outdoor work experience is desirable. Electrical experience with low voltage systems or power tools usage is beneficial for success in this role.
