McAdams Graphics is looking for an experienced Lead HP Indigo Press Operator to run production on our digital press floor and guide a small team of operators. This role combines hands-on press operation with day-to-day leadership — setting up and running jobs, maintaining tight color and quality standards, troubleshooting issues in real time, and mentoring less experienced operators so the whole shift runs smoothly and on schedule. McAdams Graphics offers advanced data services, high-speed inline single-pass printing, die cutting, folding and gluing inline, and high-volume mailing services. No other printer has these capabilities in the greater Milwaukee area. What You'll Do Set up, calibrate, and operate HP Indigo digital presses to produce high-quality printed materials that meet color, registration, and finishing specifications. Serve as the shift's go-to expert for the HP Indigo line — troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and image-quality issues, and knowing when to call for service support. Review job tickets and proofs before each run to confirm substrate, color profiles, and finishing requirements are correct. Perform color management tasks, including profile selection, density checks, and press calibration, to maintain consistent output across runs. Lead, train, and mentor press operators and assistants; assign tasks and help schedule jobs to hit production deadlines. Complete routine and preventive maintenance on press equipment, and maintain accurate logs of maintenance, downtime, and consumable usage. Monitor ink, imaging oil, BID (Binary Ink Developer) units, and other consumables, and coordinate reordering with supervisors. Inspect finished work for quality and consistency, flagging and correcting issues before jobs move downstream. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pressroom, following all safety procedures and company quality standards. Communicate production status, equipment issues, and scheduling needs clearly to the Production Manager. What You Bring 3+ years of hands-on experience operating HP Indigo digital presses (e.g., 7000/10000/12000/100K series or similar) required; prior lead or supervisory experience strongly preferred. Solid understanding of color theory, ICC color profiles, and digital press calibration and troubleshooting. Mechanical aptitude and comfort performing routine press maintenance and basic troubleshooting/repairs. Experience reading and interpreting job tickets, proofs, and production schedules in a commercial print environment. Familiarity with prepress workflows and RIP software; working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, or Illustrator is a plus. Proven ability to lead by example, train others, and keep a team focused during high-volume production periods. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a track record of meeting deadlines in a fast-paced shop. High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training in graphic arts or print production is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods and work around industrial printing equipment. Ability to lift and move paper stock, supplies, and materials up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working with inks, solvents, and press chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines. We value innovation, precision, and teamwork — qualities that drive our success in the manufacturing industry. This position offers a rewarding environment where your skills directly impact the creation of high-quality printed materials used across various markets worldwide. We're a team that takes pride in the quality of our print work and the people who produce it. We offer a competitive wage, a collaborative production environment, and the chance to take real ownership of our digital press operation as a lead operator. Compensation & Benefits Our comprehensive benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance with significant company contributions, as well as a 401(k) plan with company match. Employees receive 15 days of paid time off starting on day one, along with additional perks such as a cell phone allowance, necessary tools, and reimbursement for mileage and business expenses. McAdams Graphics is an equal opportunity employer and deeply values diversity at the company.
