A CNC Operator is generally responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring computer numerical control (CNC) machines that produce precision parts from materials such as metal or plastic.
Typical responsibilities include:
Loading raw materials and securing workpieces in the machine. Setting up CNC machines, tooling, fixtures, and work offsets. Loading or selecting CNC programs and making basic program adjustments when needed. Operating machines and monitoring the machining process for proper performance. Measuring finished parts using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Inspecting parts to ensure they meet drawings, specifications, and quality standards. Making minor machine adjustments to maintain accuracy and quality. Performing routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting. Following safety procedures and maintaining a clean, organized work area. Recording production, inspection, and machine information as required.
Common qualifications:
experience with CNC machinery, ability to read blueprints and technical drawings, knowledge of measuring instruments, basic understanding of machining processes, attention to detail, and the ability to follow safety and quality procedures.
