Aerospace CNC Machinist & Mastercam Programmer Locations:
Trenton, MI and Taylor, MI Company:
Steel Tool & Engineering Co. (Aerospace Precision Machining & Fabrication) — AS9100‑certified and NADCAP‑accredited Your day, engineered for precision Begin your shift by reviewing complex blueprints and GD&T, planning the best approach for each aerospace component. You'll set up CNC Horizontal Lathes, Vertical Turning Lathes (VTL), vertical machining centers, and 5‑axis machining centers; load material; select tooling; and dial in machine parameters. You'll program and edit with Mastercam, run first‑article parts, and verify results against exacting tolerances, analyzing CMM reports and applying precise tool wear offsets at the controller. Through the day, you'll fabricate custom fixtures, jaws, or tooling when the job demands it, tackle troubleshooting on the fly—from tool wear to program logic—and keep your work area inspection‑ready. Collaboration is part of the rhythm: coordinate with supervisors, support fellow operators, share tips, and help mentor junior teammates. Above all, you'll uphold aerospace‑grade quality, safety, and productivity targets with consistent attendance and reliability. Role snapshot Full‑time, hourly
Pay:
$18.25-$22.25+ per hour (based on experience)
Shifts:
6:00am-4:30pm, 12:00pm-10:30pm, 3:30pm-2:00am (additional $1.00/hour night shift premium) What you'll take on Set up and operate CNC Horizontal Lathes, VTLs, mills, and 5‑axis machining centers Program and edit CNC code in Mastercam; adjust G‑code at the control as needed Load materials, set tooling and offsets, verify parameters, and run production per spec Identify and correct non‑conformances; drive corrective actions Interpret CMM results and apply accurate tool wear offsets Build custom fixtures, jaws, and tooling for specialized jobs Read and interpret detailed blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings Hold tight aerospace tolerances and adhere to quality standards Troubleshoot machining, tool wear, and program issues Perform routine maintenance; maintain a clean, organized workspace Collaborate across shifts; support and mentor junior operators Meet or exceed safety, quality, and productivity goals; maintain excellent attendance What you bring Hands‑on expertise in CNC setup, operation, and adjustments Proficiency with Mastercam programming and G‑code editing Skilled with precision measurement: micrometers, calipers, height and bore gauges Comfort working with aerospace‑grade materials and sheet‑metal components Mechanical aptitude, strong problem‑solving, and clear communication Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods Ability to mentor junior operators and contribute to continuous improvement Preferred proficiencies Equipment, mechanical, and general troubleshooting Mechanical assembly and manual machining skills Machine setups for production runs Meets physical requirements; High School diploma/GED Excellent communication; basic computer literacy Measurement tools: calipers and micrometers Experience in a manufacturing environment Equipment & technologies CNC Mill (3-4 axis VMC) CNC Mill (5+ axis VMC) CNC Lathe (2-4 axis) CNC Lathe (5+ axis) Benefits Honored Vacation Time Off 100% employer‑paid medical insurance; or a $300/month waiver if you carry your own coverage Dental and vision insurance (dependents included) Life insurance 401(k) Paid holidays Paid vacations Join a team where precision, reliability, and compliance are the standard—and where your craftsmanship directly supports aerospace quality.
