Job Summary
Job Summary

Performs intermediate paint applications for overall exterior aircraft surfaces and removable parts with minimum supervision and minimum discrepancies. Independently and consistently performs advanced paint preparation operations for overall exterior aircraft surfaces and removable parts to company quality standards with low to no supervision and low to no discrepancies.

Working Conditions

Climate-controlled hangars, with occasional work outside

Involves exposure to chemical and dust levels set by OSHA standards

Lift/Hold/Carry/Push/Pull 50 pounds with/without reasonable accommodation for intermittent periods; 25 lbs. for extended periods

Physical/muscular dexterity to:

Walk/climb/stand/kneel/crouch/work overhead for extended periods while working on aircraft

Repeatedly ascend/descend scaffolds, ladders, steps, stands, and other related equipment with/without reasonable accommodation

Complies with OSHA and company safety standards and procedures

Principal Duties/Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Obtain/read/interpret/comprehend process documentation at latest revision to perform task assignments; seek guidance as needed

Locate, reference, and utilize work orders and reference data using computer system to ensure compliance with processes, and accurately document/record all traceability requirements and process data

Maintain all equipment before, during, and after use, as required, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment as defined per process while maintaining a neat, orderly, and safe work environment and cleaning up after each operation/shift

Inspect aircraft non-sensitive components before and after masking/unmasking process for interdepartmental transfers as well as mask/unmask aircraft non-sensitive components and prepare aluminum and composite substrates for sealant, primer, and paint application

Consistently inspect, mask, sand, and unmask aircraft sensitive zones with low to no discrepancies

Apply pore-filler to aircraft and apply primer/surfacer to all aircraft zones/parts as needed with low to no supervision and low to no discrepancies

Notify QC personnel prior to any applicable prep/paint activity to be performed and identify and correct discrepancies in inspection, sealant, masking/unmasking, top coating and sanding at all stages of preparation/painting

Minimize rework through proficiency in preparation and application by mixing sealant, conversion coatings, primers, surfacers, topcoats, etc. per processes with no discrepancies; identify defects in topcoats; mask, sand, and paint to correct defects in topcoats

Repeatedly paint aircraft tail, belly/parts to company quality standards with minimum supervision and minimum discrepancies

Properly set up work area for aircraft compliant with all safety requirements and assist in aircraft movement

Prepare stripe design areas for application with minimum discrepancies while learning to lay out for stripe designs and to paint aircraft fuselage and stripe designs

Check thickness and mask for regulatory and specialty coatings with low to no supervision and low to no discrepancies

Correctly train personnel of lower levels on proper procedures, methods, and techniques per company processes

Minimum Required Qualifications

4 years paint experience

Advanced knowledge and demonstrated proficiency of surface preparation processes

Intermediate knowledge of aircraft paint systems and demonstrated proficiency of topcoat application

High school diploma or equivalent

Ability and competency to:

Read, speak, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English

Follow written and verbal instructions

Perform repetitive movements and work overhead

Work on upper aircraft at heights greater than 10 feet

Use mechanical sanders, buffers, spray equipment, common hand tools, etc.

Pass pulmonary function test; obtain and maintain respirator clearance

Obtain and maintain aluminum pretreatment certification

Work with and around various adhesives, paints, resins, and other preparatory paint materials

Ability and commitment to:

Wear all PPE as required

Prioritize safety of self, others, and aircraft

Advanced knowledge of how to use mechanical sanders, buffers, spray equipment, common hand tools, etc.

Advanced attention to detail

Additional Desired Qualifications

Aerospace paint experience preferred

Scissor/Boom lift certification

Familiarity with LEAN manufacturing and quality assurance principles
