2+ Years Job Description We are seeking a skilled and motivated Fiberglass / Paint Technician to join our growing team. This position involves fiberglass repair and fabrication, fairing, surface preparation, priming, painting, gelcoat work, and finishing across a variety of marine and custom projects. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working with fiberglass, fillers, primers, gelcoats and spray equipment, and takes pride in producing clean, high-quality work. We are looking for someone dependable, detail-oriented, and capable of working efficiently both independently and as part of a team. Key Responsibilities Read, understand, and complete work orders accurately and efficiently. Perform fiberglass repairs, structural modifications, and custom fabrication using composite materials and core products. Fair flat, curved, and radial surfaces to a high standard for paint readiness. Prepare surfaces by sanding, grinding, masking, cleaning, and taping as required. Mix and apply primers, high-builds, sealers, gelcoat, and topcoats using spray equipment, rollers, and brushes. Assist with paint blending, finish sanding, buffing, and final detailing when necessary. Maintain consistent quality standards and attention to detail throughout all stages of a project. Utilize problem-solving skills to fabricate or modify custom components and assemblies. Safely handle fiberglass materials, resins, catalysts, solvents, and coatings. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace and properly care for tools and equipment. Communicate effectively regarding project progress, scheduling concerns, and material requirements. Work efficiently to maximize productive labor time while maintaining workmanship standards. Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience in fiberglass repair, paint, fairing, or marine/composite fabrication. Strong understanding of fiberglass layups, resin systems, fillers, fairing compounds, and surface preparation techniques. Experience spraying primers and paints with conventional or HVLP spray equipment preferred. Ability to apply gelcoat and perform fiberglass repairs with precision and consistency. Familiarity with sanding and fairing techniques for high-end painted finishes. Ability to read and follow work instructions and complete projects with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship. Reliable transportation and consistent attendance. Ability to lift materials, stand for extended periods, and work in a physically demanding shop environment. Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work well with others. Preferred Experience Marine industry experience. Knowledge of Awlgrip, Alexseal, Imron, gelcoat finishing systems, or similar products. Experience with composite core materials, vacuum bagging, or custom fabrication. Buffing, polishing, and finish detailing experience.
