Job Summary The Powder Coat Painter is responsible for preparing, coating, curing, inspecting, and handling metal components using industrial powder coating systems and related finishing equipment. This position ensures products are coated to quality specifications, appearance standards, and production schedules while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and manufacturing requirements. Core Responsibilities Surface Preparation Clean, degrease, sand, wipe, mask, and prepare parts for powder coating. Inspect parts for contamination, burrs, oils, rust, or defects prior to coating. Hang and rack parts to maximize coating quality and production efficiency. Identify material types and coating requirements from work orders or prints. Powder Coating Operations Operate powder coating spray equipment and related systems. Apply powder coating materials to required thickness and finish standards. Adjust spray patterns, voltage settings, air flow, and powder delivery settings. Change powder colors and clean equipment to prevent contamination. Monitor coating consistency, adhesion, and coverage quality. Load and unload curing ovens according to production schedules. Verify curing temperatures and cycle times. Quality Control Inspect finished coated surfaces for runs, orange peel, thin spots, contamination, gloss, texture, and color consistency. Measure coating thickness using approved gauges when required. Perform touch-up or rework activities as needed. Maintain production and quality records. Equipment & Maintenance Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on paint equipment and booths. Replace filters, hoses, nozzles, hooks, grounding clips, and related consumables. Monitor powder inventory and report shortages or defects. Safety & Compliance Follow all PPE, respiratory protection, hazardous chemical, and ventilation requirements. Comply with OSHA Hazard Communication requirements and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) procedures. Maintain housekeeping standards to reduce combustible dust and contamination hazards. Follow lockout/tagout procedures when servicing equipment. Report unsafe conditions, spills, fires, or equipment malfunctions immediately. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Familiarity with different coating materials and application methods. Knowledge through demonstrated experience and aptitude. Working mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance. Knowledge of appropriate materials, methods and the tools required in the various processes. High School Diploma, GED or equivalent strongly preferred. Ability to communicate appropriately and professionally with co-workers. Strong time management and prioritization skills. Strong work ethic and positive team attitude. Knowledge of workplace safety, safe lifting and handling procedures. Other jobs/duties as needed and assigned.

• One+ year shop experience.
• One to three years powder coat painting preferred.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.

Language Skills Effectively communicate and understand job instructions both verbally and written in the English language. Ability to effectively interpret and translate instructions to other employees in a professional and respectful manner. Physical Demands Stand and walk for extended periods during shift. Frequently lift and move parts weighing 10-40 lbs. Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance. Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and repetitive arm movements. Continuous hand and wrist use during spraying and material handling. Visual acuity required to identify coating defects and color variations.

Working Conditions:

Industrial paint and finishing environment. Exposure to airborne powder, dust, heat, noise, and moving equipment. Exposure to ovens, compressed air systems, and industrial ventilation equipment. PPE may include respirators, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and protective clothing. Temperature variations possible near curing ovens and production areas.
