About Company:
Summary The Painter is responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing a variety of industrial structures, equipment, and components using specialized painting and coating systems. This position ensures surfaces are properly prepared and coated in accordance with company standards, customer specifications, and applicable safety requirements. The Industrial Painter must maintain a strong commitment to quality, productivity, and workplace safety while working in industrial, construction, fabrication, or maintenance environments. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum one (1) year of industrial painting experience preferred; industrial, commercial, or construction painting experience may be considered. Experience with spray application equipment, surface preparation methods, and protective coating systems preferred. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, spray equipment, and related painting equipment. Knowledge of industrial coatings, paints, primers, and surface preparation techniques. Ability to read and understand work orders, safety procedures, and coating specifications. Must be able to obtain and maintain site-specific safety training and customer-required certifications. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of industrial painting techniques, coating systems, and surface preparation methods. Knowledge of paint mixing ratios, curing requirements, and coating application procedures. Knowledge of safety practices related to painting operations, hazardous materials, and respiratory protection. Ability to operate spray painting equipment, compressors, pressure pots, and related tools. Ability to inspect work for quality and identify coating defects. Ability to use coating thickness gauges and other inspection instruments. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced industrial environments. Effective communication and problem-solving skills. Dependable work ethic with a strong focus on safety, productivity, and quality standards. Essential Functions Prepare surfaces for coating by cleaning, scraping, grinding, sanding, power tool cleaning, and other surface preparation methods. Mix and apply paints, primers, sealers, epoxies, urethanes, and specialized protective coatings according to manufacturer specifications. Operate and maintain airless, conventional, and plural-component spray equipment. Inspect surfaces for defects, contamination, or improper preparation prior to coating application. Measure and verify coating thickness using approved inspection tools and gauges. Perform touch-up and repair work on painted surfaces as needed. Protect surrounding areas, equipment, and materials from overspray and contamination. Read and interpret work orders, coating specifications, blueprints, and project requirements. Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of paints, solvents, and hazardous materials. Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of painting equipment and tools. Comply with all company safety policies, customer requirements, and OSHA regulations. Maintain housekeeping standards within work areas and painting facilities. Work in elevated areas, confined spaces, and varying environmental conditions as required. Collaborate with supervisors, inspectors, and other trades to ensure project completion within established timelines. Physical Demands Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach throughout the workday. Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting of greater weight with assistance. Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands, wrists, and arms during surface preparation and coating application. Ability to work on elevated surfaces, scaffolding, ladders, and aerial work platforms. Ability to work in confined spaces and restricted-access areas as required. Ability to distinguish colors and visually inspect coating quality, coverage, and defects. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, face shield, gloves, hearing protection, FR clothing, steel-toed footwear, FR clothing, fall protection, respiratory protection and other project-specific PPE. Work Environment Work is performed in industrial facilities, fabrication shops, construction sites, refineries, petrochemical plants, marine facilities, and other industrial environments. Regular exposure to dust, fumes, solvents, paints, chemicals, and airborne particles. Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, and rain when working outdoors. May be required to work at heights, in confined spaces, and around heavy equipment and moving machinery. Noise levels may range from moderate to high, requiring the use of hearing protection.
