Controls & Automation Technician

Entry-Level JobVerifiedNo experience needed

Job Description

Walter Solutions is a controls and automation shop in Mentor. We build control panels, retrofit machinery, install safety systems, and program PLCs for manufacturers across Northeast Ohio. Right now that's one person, the owner. You'd be the second. This is a real first hire, not a headcount slot. You'll ride along and work directly with the owner for your first three months, learning the way this trade is actually taught: on the job, on live equipment, with someone who does the work standing next to you. What the work looks like Building and wiring control panels in the shop. Commissioning projects and troubleshooting onsight. Running wireway and conduit between machine components. Terminating field wiring, mounting sensors and safety devices, commissioning drives and I/O. Troubleshooting when a machine goes down and a plant is losing money by the hour. Most days are day trips within about ninety minutes of Mentor. You're home at night. Fewer than ten overnights a year. What you'd grow into Reading and redlining schematics on your own. Making PLC and HMI edits. Running a small job start to finish. There's a defined path to Integration Technician, and it isn't a poster on the wall, it's the reason this role exists. What we're looking for You've done industrial maintenance, electrical work, panel building, or something adjacent, and you can read a print. You're comfortable with hand tools, meters, and getting into a machine. You've got a valid license and a clean driving record. You do not need a degree. You do not need to know how to program. If you're a maintenance tech who's been teaching yourself and wants out of shift work, you're exactly who this is written for. Pay and benefits $25.00/hour, non-exempt. Overtime at time and a half over 40. Four-hour minimum on any callback. Health reimbursement of $300/month toward the plan you choose. 80 hours PTO, 10 paid holidays. $50/month phone allowance. Mileage reimbursed at the IRS rate. Tools and PPE provided. Training paid for. To apply Send a résumé, or just tell me what you've worked on. If you've wired a panel, chased down an intermittent fault, or kept an old machine running past its retirement, I want to hear about it.
