(PVE, Inc.) is a dedicated code fabrication company. Position Summary The Powder-Coat Department Assistant supports our finishing operations by preparing fabricated parts for powder coating, masking & plugging threaded connections, loading/unloading parts to/from paint racks, and preparing finished parts for shipment. Attention to detail, safety, and strong team work are critical in this role. Key Responsibilities Inspect and prepare fabricated parts for powder coat application: cleaning, removing weld spatter, grinding/filing as needed. Mask and plug threaded connections, joints, flanges, and surfaces that should not be coated. Load and unload parts onto powder-coat racks, carts, or other holding fixtures in accordance with production schedule and coating requirements. Assist with moving parts safely (manual handling or using lifting devices) from prep area to coating booth/rack, and from there to staging or shipment areas. After coating, inspect coated parts, remove masking/plugs, clean edges as needed. Package, label, and prep parts for shipment: ensure correct protection, proper packing materials, secure packaging to prevent damage. Maintain clean, organized work areas; clean equipment, masking materials, plugs, racks. Follow safety rules and use of PPE (personal protective equipment), particularly when handling masking materials, coatings, and moving heavy/bulky parts. Occasionally assist with inventory of masking materials, plugs, packing supplies, racks, etc.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a manufacturing or finishing environment, preferably with painting, coating, or powder-coating prep work. Comfort working with metal parts, using hand tools such as grinders, files, wire brushes. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to read work orders or specifications for masking/plugging.
Physical stamina:
lifting, bending, standing for extended periods; safely handling heavy or awkward parts. Attention to detail; ability to spot surfaces that need extra prep or masking. Good team player with a safety-first mindset.
Preferred:
Familiarity with powder coating processes. Experience with protective coatings, masking techniques. Forklift or lift truck operator certification (or willingness to obtain). Basic understanding of shipping / packing best practices for metal fabrications.
