We are actively expanding our capabilities, investing in new equipment, and positioning ourselves for continued growth across demanding markets. We are currently seeking a temporary Precision Grinder for approximately 6-12 weeks. As a Precision Grinder, you will focus primarily on OD grinding including set up and operation but some work may also include use of surface and jig grinding equipment to produce, close-tolerance components. This is a hands-on position responsible for independently planning and completing grinding operations from engineering drawings, work instructions, and specifications. You will establish machine setups and workholding, inspect your work throughout the process, and make the adjustments necessary to achieve required dimensions, geometries, and surface finishes. This role has work schedule flexibility on day shift to better suit the successful candidate. The successful candidate could decide to work less than 8 hours/day or a shortened work week, if desired. Pay is dependent on experience but our ideal range is $20-$25/hr. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate manual grinding equipment, including, OD, surface, and jig grinders. Perform external cylindrical grinding, surface grinding, and precision jig-grinding operations on complex machined components. Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, GD&T, routers, and work instructions. Determine the appropriate sequence of operations, machine settings, workholding, grinding wheels, speeds, feeds, and dressing methods. Set up parts using chucks, centers, magnetic tables, fixtures, mandrels, collets, sine plates, and other workholding methods. Grind diameters, bores, shoulders, faces, tapers, contours, slots, holes, and flat surfaces to required dimensions and finishes. Establish part alignment, concentricity, runout, parallelism, perpendicularity, flatness, and other geometric requirements. Verify completed work meets dimensional, geometric, surface-finish, and customer requirements before releasing the part to the next operation. Identify and troubleshoot grinding issues such as chatter, taper, burn, loading, poor surface finish, wheel breakdown, distortion, and inconsistent size. Make approved machine, program, offset, and process adjustments necessary to maintain product conformity. Complete required production, inspection, traceability, and quality documentation accurately and on time. Identify and properly document nonconforming or questionable product and communicate concerns promptly. Handle precision components carefully to prevent damage, contamination, or loss of traceability. Perform routine machine care, cleaning, coolant checks, and basic preventive-maintenance activities. Maintain an organized work area and follow all safety, quality, and operating procedures. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. At least three (3) years of precision grinding experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience setting up and operating one or more of the following: OD grinding Surface grinding Jig grinding Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T. Preferred Five or more years of precision-grinding experience. At least five (3 years) of experience performing multiple grinding processes, particularly OD, surface, and jig grinding. Experience producing aerospace, defense, medical, tooling, or other highly regulated components. Experience operating Karsten and/or Brown & Sharp OD Grinders, Moore Jig Grinders, or Supertech surface grinders Skills and Competencies Proficiency using precision-measurement equipment such as micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, height gauges, and surface-finish measuring equipment. Ability to plan and execute grinding setups with limited supervision. Ability to identify grinding defects and make practical process adjustments. Strong blueprint-reading, measurement, mathematical, and mechanical skills. Ability to maintain close tolerances, geometric relationships, and surface-finish requirements. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing conforming work. Dependable, safety-focused, and willing to support the broader needs of the manufacturing team.
