Position Overview The Level II Heat Treatment Technician is responsible for independently setting up, operating, monitoring, and documenting heat treatment operations in shop and field environments. This role performs preheat, post-weld heat treatment (PWHT), bake-outs, stress relief, and related thermal processing work using approved procedures, customer specifications, and company safety standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with heat treatment equipment, thermocouple installation, temperature control systems, charting/documentation, industrial jobsite safety, and familiarity with combustion equipment. This position may also assist with training entry-level assistants and supporting field crews during client projects. Key Responsibilities Set up, operate, and break down heat treatment equipment, including electrical resistance heating systems, controllers, recorders, cables, insulation, and thermocouple assemblies. Perform preheat, PWHT, bake-out, and stress-relief operations according to job procedures, weld requirements, customer specifications, and applicable codes. Install and remove heating elements, ceramic pads, insulation, thermocouples, and related equipment with accuracy and consistency. Program, monitor, and adjust temperature control equipment to maintain required heat cycles, soak times, and controlled heating/cooling rates. Read and interpret heat treatment procedures, drawings, work orders, weld maps, and customer specifications. Document heat cycles, maintain charts and equipment logs, and submit accurate reports for quality and client records. Troubleshoot equipment, wiring, thermocouple, and temperature control issues during setup and active operations. Coordinate with supervisors, welders, inspectors, NDT personnel, quality teams, and client representatives while on site. Inspect, clean, maintain, and stage heat treatment equipment before and after assignments. Follow all safety procedures involving electrical equipment, hot work, elevated temperatures, confined spaces, elevated work areas, and required PPE. Assist with loading, unloading, mobilization, demobilization, and organization of field equipment and job kits. Train, mentor, or provide direction to assistant technicians and junior team members as assigned. Skills & Qualifications Technical training, trade school, or heat treatment certification preferred. Minimum of 4 years of industrial heat treatment, PWHT, thermal processing, NDT support, welding support, refinery, power generation, petrochemical, pipeline, or fabrication experience preferred. Working knowledge of heat treatment methods, electrical resistance heating, thermocouple placement, insulation practices, temperature controllers, chart recorders, and data logging systems. Ability to read and understand technical drawings, specifications, heat treatment procedures, weld documentation, and work instructions. Basic understanding of metallurgy, welding, controlled heating/cooling, stress relief, and quality documentation. Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent attention to detail, documentation accuracy, communication, and jobsite professionalism. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to pass background checks, drug/alcohol screening, and customer site access requirements as needed. Physical & Work Requirements Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding work. Comfortable working indoors, outdoors, at heights, in confined spaces, and around active industrial equipment. Willingness to travel to client sites and work variable hours, overtime, weekends, or nights based on project needs. Ability to work safely in hot, cold, noisy, and physically demanding industrial environments.

Pay:
