Job Description

Production & Alterations Manager About the Opportunity A luxury bridal and formalwear retailer is seeking an experienced Production & Alterations Manager to lead its alterations and custom-work department. This role is responsible for overseeing the complete fitting process, managing a team of skilled seamstresses, coordinating customizations, and ensuring each garment meets the highest standards of fit, finish, and craftsmanship. Key Responsibilities Oversee fittings for bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses, eveningwear, and other formal garments. Communicate clearly with clients about recommended alterations, timelines, pricing, and the fitting process. Document fitting notes and ensure agreed-upon work is completed before the next appointment. Address client concerns proactively and identify practical solutions. Schedule and adjust fittings in accordance with department guidelines. Confirm that all required alteration payments have been collected. Lead, support, and coordinate a team of professional seamstresses. Assign clients to seamstresses based on technical skill, garment complexity, and workload. Balance fitting appointments with production capacity and store scheduling needs. Distribute weekly fitting schedules and communicate updates or changes. Monitor deadlines and make adjustments to prevent production delays. Support hiring, onboarding, timekeeping, paid-time-off requests, payroll calculations, and overtime tracking. Review customization requests with the sales team and determine technical feasibility. Provide guidance on custom modifications and develop accurate cost estimates. Manage custom work orders and create patterns when necessary. Inspect completed work to confirm quality, accuracy, fit, and attention to detail. Provide occasional hands-on support with industrial sewing machines, hand sewing, repairs, and other production needs. Assist with sample repairs, garment preparation, and steaming during peak periods. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in fashion design, bridalwear, formalwear, or a related apparel environment. 5+ years of professional sewing and alterations experience. 3+ years of supervisory or management experience. 5+ years of customer service experience. Strong background working with bridal gowns, eveningwear, bridesmaid dresses, or other high-end garments. Advanced knowledge of garment construction, delicate fabrics, lace, beading, embroidery, and specialty finishes. Proficiency with industrial sewing equipment and advanced hand-sewing techniques.
