Job Summary Under the direction of the Physical Plant Mechanic Supervisor, provide journey-level Sheet metal experience, supporting the SEPP projects, as well as repair a variety of campus equipment.
Design, layout, fabricate and install all elements of sheet metal work for mechanical and HVAC systems, both supply and exhaust systems including duct work, fittings, grilles, diffusers, louvers, fume hoods, fans and blowers. Design, layout, fabricate and install gutters, down spouts, roof edgings, flashings, louvers and miscellaneous boxes, bins, carts, etc. Weld, brace and/or solder aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized iron, cold rolled steel and black iron. Perform proper time keeping and accounting of materials and expenses for assigned projects. Apply By Date August 12th 2026 by 11:59PM Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position Must possess a certificate of completion from a recognized union apprenticeship program, University apprenticeship program, accredited trade school or have the equivalent amount of experience and training comparable to a journey level craftsperson in the Sheet metal trade.
Non-certified applicants will have their training and experience evaluated by a Credentials Committee of Facilities Management Senior Leaders
Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
High school diploma and/or equivalent experience.
Journey level knowledge and experience in the Sheet metal/welding trade and related practices.
Skill to fabricate, maintain, service, repair, replace, install and/or alter sheet metal and other campus systems.
Skill to inspect and perform preventive maintenance program on HVAC and other campus systems. Preferred Qualifications Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, customer service, organizational, and computer skills.
Skill to provide clearly written and understandable reports and instructions.
Analytical skill to understand and interpret technical data and mechanical and structural specifications and blueprints.
Knowledge of welding standards with regards to the welding trade and approved safety devices and practices. Key Responsibilities 40%

Safety and Record Keeping Department Overview Building Maintenance Services (BMS) provides repair, maintenance, and technical support for UC Davis' research, academic, and classroom facilities, maintaining more than 12 million square feet across over 1,200 campus buildings.
The department is comprised of highly skilled trades professionals specializing in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, roofing, flooring, painting, locks and keys, elevators, fire alarm systems, and other critical building infrastructure. Vacation usage by the employee may be restricted during peak workload periods as required to meet the needs of the campus. This position supports critical campus functions operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. To assure adequate support of these functions the employee may be required to participate in an on-call program to facilitate timely return of staff to the campus as required to meet critical needs. This on-call program may include requirements for the employee to inform the University how they can be reached during non-working hours, to carry University provided radios, cell phones, pagers or other telecommunications equipment which would facilitate communication between the campus and employee during non-work hours, or to accept rotating on-call responsibility which could periodically restrict the off-campus movements of the employee. If the employee's non-working hour movements are restricted by the University, employees will be compensated for their On-Call" time according to the established on-call rates. If actually called into work, the employee will be compensated according to the established campus policies. Employees may also be required to return to work after an assigned shift due to business necessity or emergencies. Compensation for "Call-Back" will be in accordance with campus policies.
