Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required Associate degree in Machining, Manufacturing, or a related technical field preferred Experience Requirements CNC setup experience on mills, lathes, or both Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) Ability to adjust tool offsets and troubleshoot machining processes Experience using precision measuring instruments Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel CMM experience preferred Job Duties Read blueprints, setup sheets, and work instructions Set up CNC mills, lathes, and related equipment from an unfurnished state Load tooling, programs, and verify machine readiness Stage materials and conduct first-piece inspections Load and unload materials from CNC machines Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, indicators, gauge pins, thread gauges, and height stands Identify and address nonconforming parts Monitor production and make machine offsets as needed Troubleshoot machining issues and optimize performance Operate multiple machines when required Maintain accurate communication with supervisors regarding production status Follow quality, organization, and housekeeping standards Physical Capabilities Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work around machining equipment throughout the shift. Ability to lift materials, tooling, and components weighing up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity to safely operate CNC machinery and precision measuring equipment. What You Will Do As a CNC Setup Machinist you will set up, operate, monitor, and adjust CNC machining equipment to manufacture precision components according to engineering specifications. You will verify machine setups, inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments, troubleshoot machining issues, maintain tooling, and support quality and production goals while following established safety and manufacturing procedures. A CNC Setup Machinist manufactures precision components using computer numerical control (CNC) equipment to produce consistent, high-quality parts. This role combines technical knowledge, mechanical aptitude, and attention to detail to support modern manufacturing operations. Successful CNC Setup Machinist professionals understand machining principles, blueprint interpretation, tooling selection, machine setup, and dimensional inspection while maintaining tight tolerances and production efficiency.
